Second Life statistics 2013 winter update

This is the winter update on Second Life statistics 2013.

SL Total Regions

My last post on Second Life statistics was published on 1st October 2013 for the autumn update and it still appears that private regions are declining week on week for many reasons. Tyche Shepherd yesterday published that year to date of private estate losses now stands at 1, 568 (7.5%) via SLUniverse Forums.

This time last year the year to date of private estate losses went up to 2, 500 regions however this year the decline is slower but it’s still alarming. 2013 started with 28, 036 main grid regions and today it’s dropped down to 26, 403 regions. If rates continue as they are then I would expect total main grid regions to be around the 24, 000 mark or less this time next year.

I do hope the SL economy will see growth again but it’s unlikely to happen without more investment.

On 6th January 2013

  • Total main grid regions: 28, 036
  • Total private estates: 20, 921
  • Total Linden owned: 7, 115

On 21st July 2013

  • Total main grid regions: 27, 079
  • Total private estates: 19, 997
  • Total Linden owned: 7, 082

On 1st October 2013

  • Total Main Grid regions: 26, 729
  • Total Private Estates: 19, 645
  • Total Linden owned: 7, 084

On 1st December 2013

  • Total Main Grid regions: 26, 403
  • Total Private Estates: 19, 424
  • Total Linden owned: 6, 979

The graph shows a down hill drop of main grid total regions during the past year or so.

SL Daily Concurrency Levels

Since October 2013 the daily concurrency levels seem to be reaching a peak of 60, 000 to a low peak of 29, 000 on a daily basis since October 2013. The median daily concurrency went up to the 46, 000 mark with the mean daily concurrency being around 45, 000 mark. I would expect the daily concurrency levels to pick up now as we head into the Christmas season and the new year months.

SL Signups

As of 2nd December there are now 36,201,866 signups for Second Life since 2003. According to Dwell On It statistical graphs it appears that the rate of signups on a daily basis is now between 10, 000 to 12, 000 which is much slower than it was at the start of 2013 when it reached between 16, 000 – 17, 000 signups on a daily basis.

Next stats update

The next statistics update will be published in March/April 2014.
