Increased Land Impact Allowance

As many know earlier this week Linden Lab increased the land impact allowance by lowering the mesh download weight by 15% for all of Second Life. Anyone that owns or rents land can now see more land impact available on their parcels on the grid. Yay! 🙂

  • Right-click on the object you want to inspect
  • Click Edit
  • Click the More info link to see the current Download weight

Linden Lab explains in the blog post that “we’d like to take this opportunity to remind residents that this allowance is being given for no charge and is intended to help offset any additional Land Impact spent on manually rezzed reflection probes and lights, and of course in anticipation of the upcoming Mirrors release. Land Impact is a finite resource, please rez responsibly!”.

  • Animesh, primitives, and sculpties are not affected. The update will only affect static mesh objects that are rezzed onto your land”.

Good news that there is no charge for this and hopefully the lab will continue to support/add more benefits in 2024/2025 for those that own/rent land in Second Life.

Second Life Birthday Themes (SL1B – SL21B)

I have been looking back at the historical archives of previous Second Life birthday themes and looking back at historical information. It’s hard to believe that Second Life will turn 21 on 23rd June 2024 and this year there will be a month long birthday celebration to mark this special occasion.

Here is what I have managed to find below between 2004 – 2024….

It’s good that the lab have been involved with the annual Second Life birthdays over the years and continue to support it. The community has put on impressive birthday events over the past 20 years showing the very best of Second Life has to offer. Second Life will be around for decades to come.

I have covered all previous Second Life birthdays since SL6B plus TSL4B & TSL5B. I transferred to the main grid back in mid December 2008. So much has happened since then and I am glad I have remained active still in Second Life. I started blogging back in mid December 2007 about events, news and adventures.

Preparations have now started for SL21B scheduled for mid June 2024 and I will blog more very soon on the latest developments. Stay tuned for that.
