Eco-Life project in Second Life

In Second Life many residents enjoy working on their own individual projects for many interesting different reasons which benefit the Second Life community. The Eco-friendly project in Second Life is targeted towards the education and enterainment of residents in the SL community.

Apparently residents can raise their own bears, grow plants and even create eco power for various uses. Eco-Life launched in June 2010 with the arrival of billboards in breedable markets across the SL grid. Eco-Life bears have a working AI which actually learns from its experience in Second Life and the avatars it encounters which is really smart.

Eco-Life created a system that the avatars use to make a stable eco economy which creates jobs within the system for users to do, if you wanted ot breed animals you can be a breeder. If you want to bake ,farm, make furniture, all this is all tied into Eco-Life. Eco-Life has introduced GreenTown into the project which brings new plants, animals, farming and new equipment for the Eco-system which sounds really interesting. More information about the project can be found here from a recent interview last year.

Eco-Life project has its own inworld location in Second Life, teleport here.

Eco-Life is currently developing a breedable bear, among many other animals. Join our group to remain updated. Visit us inworld in Main St, and hang out at our community center.

To take part in the Eco-Life project, join the “Eco-Life Betaupdate group for the latest products and news. Donations will help to continue and develop the high quality realistic products. Eco-Life team are friendly to all members and they try to keep 100% personal communication between them (no ticket support). So if your looking for a interesting project to join inworld then join this exciting fun project inworld today.

Latest updates on SL Mesh 2011

Last week on Thursday 6th January 2011 I went along to Oskar Linden and Maestro Linden Beta Office Hours on the Aditi (Preview Grid). During the office hour there was a tiny bit of mention about SL Mesh, group sizes and estate windlight. Check out the official SL wiki page on Mesh in Second Life. SL Mesh went into Open Beta status on 14th October 2010 since then there have been many interesting developments.

6th January 2011

  • [15:36]  Oskar Linden: group size changes are coming soon. this month later I think. not certain
  • [15:37]  Oskar Linden: so much good stuff right around the corner
  • [15:37]  Oskar Linden: mesh in a few months or so I’m guessing[
  • 15:37]  Oskar Linden: with havok improvements
  • [15:58]  Maestro Linden: estate windlight is supported in the server (and has been for several months), but I think we’re waiting on viweer support

This week I went along to the Mesh HQ office hours on Monday 10th January 2011 and everyone was told that Linden Lab don’t yet have a rough ETA on MESH for the release on the main grid. My estimation would be that mesh will be released before easter 2011 at the very latest but in the mean time Mesh is still in development and the Mesh team are still working on many features before the public release.

You can find the whole transcript of the meeting here and the latest discussions about it.

10th January 2011

  • [11:33]  Nyx Linden: related – next topic: “Mesh Pilot Release” for the main grid on some pilot regions “
  • [11:34]  Nyx Linden: sorry I don’t have a rough eta to quote you, and I’ve found giving a rough eta before we’re certain leads to disappointment 😛
  • [11:32]  Nyx Linden: next topic: “What is the official status of mesh import? When will it be released onto the main grid? “
  • [11:32]  Nyx Linden: mesh is still under development and we have a number of requirements that are not done for a main grid release yet
  • [11:33]  Nyx Linden: aka “when its ready” – we’re not ready to announce a launch date
  • [11:35]  Nyx Linden: it is likely that we will end up releasing in a staged manner, though we’re still discussing how that will work
  • [11:35]  Nyx Linden: let me put it this way: we aren’t ready yet. Once I can get more specific than that I will.
  • [11:35]  Nyx Linden: no I cannot give a rough estimate.
  • [11:36]  Nyx Linden: we’re not at a point where we can publicly offer a rough eta.
  • [11:36]  Nyx Linden: once we have a rough eta, we will blog about it
  • [11:42]  Nyx Linden: next topic: “what features are still missing before public release ?
  • [11:42]  Nyx Linden: we’re fairly good technically, but we need more work on import UI, stability, bugfixing, and tweaks and implementation for cost functions (render, streaming, physics, and upload)
  • [11:51]  Nyx Linden: as for upload costs – we don’t have a finalized plan for that yet, but we’re working on it
  • [11:51]  Nyx Linden: once we have a solid plan we’ll let you guys know!
  • [11:53]  Nyx Linden: last topic! “How will vehicles work in mesh…as long as we keep physics, itself, under 32? “
  • [11:53]  Nyx Linden: the physical representation of the vehicle needs to be 32 prims or less. the visual representation can be more.
  • [11:54]  Nyx Linden: Drongle – answer is no news yet, will update you guys when we have a solid plan to announce
  • [11:54]  Nyx Linden: the 32 prim limit is to keep things sane for havok

That’s the latest Mesh news at the moment and when more info is announced I will publish it. 🙂
