During the past week the SL18B regions (SLB) have changed on the world map in Second Life in terms of the start of the transformation taking place and the expansion of the whole area. The snapshot above was taken on Sunday 23rd June 2021 showing new changes. Earlier in May the SL18B regions came online and you can see what it looked like below.
New Visual Changes
There are now 10 SLB Water regions at different points surrounding the birthday regions
Region terraforming can be seen clearly on most of the regions
The Stilts demo region (SLB Enchant) from SL17B has been revamped
Training for SL18B will start this week for volunteers and exhibitors will be able to start building very soon.
All exhibitors will be contacted no later than 1st June 2021. Those that are successful will be contacted in-world by IM and Notecard by the Mole team. The lab has received over 250 applications for SL18B so far so it may time some time to process.
More SL18B information will be likely be announced by Linden Lab in the weeks ahead.
24 days and counting until the grand opening of SL18B. Wooot!! 🙂
Second Life 18th birthday celebrations officially start next month from 17th June through until 1st July 2021. The good news is that the SL18B regions have now come online however they are all still named SL17B at this time.
It’s going to be great to see the visual changes of the birthday regions over the next six weeks or so depending on how often the World Map tiles update in Second Life. These regions are closed for public access currently.
On Thursday 6th May Linden Lab announced that the SL18B Shop & Hop applications are now open. This event brings together the top merchants across the grid for exclusive discounts and exclusive items. SL18B Shop & Hop will take place from 17th June to 1st July.
Linden Lab will be sharing more information about SL18B over the next month. I’m sure there will be announcements early next month along with many group notices in the specific birthday groups inworld.
Not much longer to wait now until the birthday celebrations open.
On Monday 29th March Linden Lab officially opened up the SL18B volunteer applications which will remain open until Thursday 29th May 2021. For anyone that has not volunteered before at previous Second Life birthday events then I highly recommend doing it. Applications for SL18B Performers, Merchants and more will be opening very soon.
The upcoming Second Life 18th annual birthday celebration (SL18B) will be held on 17th June to 1st July 2021. Roughly 80 days away now.
It’s worth pointing out that SL18B volunteers will have to attend pre-birthday training sessions (at least one) and must be completed. SL18B volunteers are expected to commit to at least two hour shifts during the SL18B birthday celebrations. Volunteers don’t get paid during this event.

Every year we celebrate because of you, the amazing and creative Residents, who have chosen to call Second Life home. What has drawn you into this world and what keeps you here? This year at the eighteenth annual Second Life Birthday, show us what fuels your Second Life and inspires you. Let’s go exploring!
For anyone missed the show with the Moles at RFL Home & Garden Expo 2021 here is the full episode above. The show runs for 1 hour & 15 minutes featuring some of the Moles from the Linden Department for Public Works.
Saffia Widdershins hosts the discussion and a small Q&A session at the end. It’s definitely worth watching to hear what the Moles have been working on recently including the expansion of the Bellisseria continent and much more.
More news on SL18B will be unveiled within the next few weeks. It’s going to be interesting to hear the theme will be for this year. There was mention during the end part of the show on hidden Easter eggs around the grid.
On Wednesday 10th March Patch Linden VP of Product Operations talked with Saffia Widdershins at this year’s RFL Home & Garden Expo 2021 about Linden Homes and much more. The special talk session duration lasts for 1 hour / 22 minutes / 40 seconds and you can watch the full video above for the latest updates.
Patch Linden talked about his work at the lab including testing on the user experience flows (news later this year), Linden Homes (three new themes being worked on), the old Linden Homes and much more. It’s a really interesting interview with some sneak hints on whats coming next from Patch. There was mention about the process and issues on Second Life moving into the cloud.
For those that don’t know the Bellisseria continent is almost connected with the south west part of the Satori continent which is a huge development for Second Life. I can’t wait for the day when its officially connected so everyone can travel between the two continents. See my previous blog post for the latest map developments. This latest batch of new regions will increase the overall main grid region (Linden owned) count later this week.
Linden Homes Newer Updates…
The next Linden Home theme after Chalets will be previewed at SL18B and most likely be released once the birthday is over. This new theme will blow your socks off and will have unique capabilities according to Patch
Chalet homes probably be released in a couple of weeks time (on map the lab have almost connected the continents)
Patch’s goal is to have all of the Linden Home themes released by the end of the year (if everything goes smoothly)
Passport system will be launching soon for Bellisseria (passport stamping kiosks with custom stamps like get your passport and discover (driver license etc)
Moving To The Cloud
Philip Rosedale last worked on the maps system / fix still being worked on since the uplift last year
Fixes are going to take time for the various Second Life issues
Web search has been a challenge / constant battle with the technology
Group chats deploy fix coming soon / most teleporting issues have been solved
The lab has a health dashboard to see the latest stats for teleportation (if above 95% = success rate), region crossings and more
