The party celebrations are still happening over at the SL15B regions with live music around the clock and great exhibitions to see. It’s one of the biggest events on the grid happening now 🙂

Happy Birthday Second Life and here’s to another 15+ years 🙂

Come and join the SL15B celebrations today 🙂

SL15B Welcome Area

On Monday 18th June Linden Lab announced some exciting Second Life 15th birthday events upcoming. Second Life will officially turn 15 years old on Saturday 23rd June 2018 and there will be big celebrations to make this special occasion.

It’s great to see the lab hosting a series of events for SL15B (see below) and I think this year will be the best Second Life birthday ever.

Meet the Lindens

We’re back for another year of Meet the Lindens where some of the folks who work on Second Life sit down to chat about what makes Second Life so special, and field some questions from the community at large. Check out the schedule and details on our Destination Guide. All meeting will be inworld at 2pm (SLT).

Meet the people behind Second Life. Participants include: Xiola Linden (June 18), Patch & Kiera Linden (June 19), Ebbe Linden (June 20), Grumpity & Oz Linden (June 21), and Brett Linden (June 22). All events at 2 p.m. (Pacific).

The Big 15th Birthday Weekly Gift Grab

Fifteen years is a tremendous achievement for any community, and we’ve been hard at work on a fun and interactive gift hunting series to thank our Residents. The Big 15th Birthday Weekly Gift Grab starts today – June 18th, 2018!

For the next 15 weeks, we’ll be releasing a different crystal-themed gift each week. All you have to do is find and collect the gifts. Each fabulous gift is available for one week only, and in one Region only. The Region will change each week, and we’ll be publishing clues each week to help you find the Region to search for that week’s gift – watch the Second Life social media channels and the Blog at for the clues.

How to get started:

  • Visit the Swaginator HUD kiosk here to grab your Swaginator HUD
  • Attach your Swaginator HUD
  • Investigate the clue for the week by checking our Blog or social media channels ( This week’s clue is already up so go check it out now!)
  • Find the Region and start searching

Remember, each gift is available for one week only, and then it’s gone. You can collect as many, or as few gifts as you want, but if you want to collect the final super-special Birthday Gift in the final week you will need to have collected all 14 of the previous gifts.

SL15B Shopping Event

For the first time ever – we’ve gathered 80 of Second Life’s Merchants across 4 Regions for  one big shopping extravaganza that you don’t want to miss! Each Merchant is providing a free gift in celebration of this landmark birthday and offering incredible deals on some of their most popular items. In addition, many will also be participating in a sale on the Marketplace as well. Visit each Region below to get a little celebratory shopping in, grab free gifts, and take advantage of the amazing discounts. A full list of participating Merchants is availablehere. Many of the Merchants are also participating in a Marketplace sale, so be sure to visit them in the web as well as inworld!

You can visit any of the 4 Regions from the Destination Guide.

SL15B Music Fest

In tradition of the last several Second Life birthdays, we have three days of incredible live music lined up for you! Come out and join us as we rock, pop, and roll to a variety of genres.

Full line up can be seen here – though may be subject to changes because that’s showbiz!

Second Life Grid Statistics – September 2017 Update

Historical Daily Concurrency Since December 2009

These are latest Second Life Grid Statistics for September 2017 from the Second Life Grid Survey run by Tyche Shepherd.

The Second Life Grid Survey is by far the best source for daily Second Life grid statistics to check out. You can check out the latest region database numbers, useful economic metrics and much more.

I pointed out in my last Second Life Grid Statistics made back in early July 2017 that the grid saw a tiny amount of region growth from Private Estates during the first half of 2017. However the total amount of Main Grid regions has been dropping throughout 2017.

Since July 2017 Private Estates and even Linden Owned regions have declined down hill. Personally I don’t think the launch of Sansar Creator Beta effected the grid numbers or had any sort of big impact that some were guessing was going to happen.

Updated stats as of 10th September 2017

New Sansar Creator Preview Video

This week a new promotional video of Sansar Creator Preview was uploaded on the official Sansar YouTube channel showing another sneak preview of Sansar.

The video runs for 1 minute and 38 seconds which is definitely worth watching if you interested in Sansar. “Ria shares her thoughts on this new platform and offers a sneak peek at “Little Giant,” one of the first experiences created with Sansar during the creator preview”.

Linden Lab have sent out even more invites to Second Life users in recent days according to various sources. Once you receive the Welcome to Sansar Creator Preview email, accept the invitation and then you are ready to get started with Sansar.

The arrival of a new Linden Project area in Second Life

New Linden Project area arrives
New Linden Project area arrives on the grid

In late September 2016 Linden Lab added a series of new Linden Project regions (over 40+) far north of the mainland in Second Life. These regions (named HR/HC/HIH) are currently closed to the public but they are mainly rated Adult which is rather interesting.

It’s unclear at the moment what the regions will be used for and whether or not they will open to the public anytime soon. I guess most likely we will have to wait until the lab announces something about these regions in the near future.

From the map view it looks like the arrival of new Linden homes 2.0 is my guess with water surrounding the central areas. It’s a huge land area and a big Linden project for sure.

What do you think about these new regions ?

Premium Members can now be a member of 60 groups

Linden Lab announced on Thursday 28th May that Premium Members can now join up to 60 groups in Second Life from the previous 42 limit. This is great news for anyone that are Premium in Second Life and this change comes into effect immediately.

For non Premium members the group limit still remains at 42 and in the past the lab mentions that the group limit was 10 groups max in the early days of Second Life. It may raise further in the future and we will have to wait until then.

Group Limit History

  • 10 groups- 2003
  • 15 groups – 2004
  • 25 groups – 2006
  • 42 groups – 2011
  • 60 groups – 2015

The blog announcement can be read in full below.

Today we’re thrilled to be rolling out another perk for Premium members: now you can be a member of 60 groups! Groups have been a consistently popular feature among the Residents of Second Life. It may not be obvious, but group membership can have an impact on the performance of a number of systems. That’s why in Second Life’s early days, Residents could only join a maximum of 10 groups. Over the years, we’ve made improvements that enabled us to raise the group limit to a maximum of 42, but we know that for some power users, even that isn’t quite enough, and today we’re happy to raise the bar for Premium subscribers.  We must make sure that the recent gains in group performance are not jeopardized, so for now the new limit is a pilot program. If there are no problems, we will look forward to raising the limit further (stay tuned!).

Premium members can immediately take advantage of the new limit. Downgrading from Premium membership will not remove you from any of your groups, but it will mean that you cannot join any new groups until you remove yourself from enough groups to get below the Basic account limit, which remains at 42.

There are many reasons to maintain a Premium membership in Second Life, and we hope this increased group membership limit makes Premium subscriptions even more attractive. We’ll be adding even more benefits and features for Premium members throughout the year.

Learn more about Premium membership and upgrade your account today. You can pay for your subscription monthly, quarterly, or annually – and the annual plan in particular is a great value. In addition to a total savings of more than $47 compared to a monthly subscription, the value of the weekly L$ stipend means the membership nearly pays for itself!
