Today (23rd June) marks Second Life official 16th birthday. Second Life is still one of the best virtual worlds out there today.
The party is still going on at the SL16B regions. Next week marks the start of Meet the Lindens Q&As sessions. It’s a great way of hearing directly from Linden Lab on things they are working on. I would imagine we will be hearing more about the new Linden Homes in the days ahead.
Don’t forget to visit the Tapestry of Time attraction at SL16B which is very interesting indeed looking back at the past 16 years of Second Life. For all those that love Second Life history this is definitely worth seeing.
Happy 16th Birthday Second Life. Thanks to Linden Lab for organising SL16B and for all the hard work it’s taken over the years to get Second Life to where it is today.
Here is the first preview of the new Trailer theme at SL16B Spellbound which looks pretty impressive. As member of the press and greeter I took these snapshots hours before the grand opening to show everyone now it’s past 10am SLT. This new area is still work in progress apparently and the final live regions will be different when it launches sometime this year.
Camping Demo Sign:: Please keep in mind this region is just a PEEK at content that is still a work in progress. The final live regions will be somewhat different and will have some variety built into them just like the previous themes do, but it does give a taste of what is coming.
There are new small Trailers and Campers that surround the water lake with mountains around the outside. There is a dirt road with lovely trees across the region with rocks/wood in certain areas. There is a water tower in the north east corner of the Trailer park. Check out the new Community Center Cabin at the main entrance of the new trailer park.
The Lindens and Moles have done a fantastic job overall for SL16B.
What do you think of the new trailer theme at SL16B ?
There are new Linden homes and houseboats next to the trailer park in the south east corner of the birthday regions.
Linden Lab have added a new SL16B section on the Second Life Destination Guide. There are now planned birthday events, experiences and places of interest to visit next week. SL16B opens on Thursday 20th June.
Linden Lab will be hosting a series of special Town Hall Q&As events during the first week of the birthday celebrations.
All the sessions will be held every day at 2pm SLT/PDT.
There is now exactly one week to go until the Second Life 16th birthday celebrations (SL16B) opens to the public in Second Life. It looks like Linden Lab and the Moles are running the birthday event this year from what I have been hearing. Exhibitors are still working on getting everything ready on time and the greeter training sessions are almost over.
Looking at the map of the SL16B regions with a week left to go they all look pretty nice. The Exhibitors parcels are all on the west side this year with various builds going east. There is a Linden homes / houseboats region which could have new themes on them. The love heart looks very interesting indeed.
I’m surprised there has not been a website set up for SL16B yet like in previous years. It would be great to have a place where everyone can find daily events, parcel/stage locations, maps, links and other useful information. I think there will be several Meet the Lindens events during the SL16B celebration to discuss new Linden home themes. The dates and times are yet to be announced. I think there will be big talk of Linden Homes and the Premium price changes during SL16B.
There is talk of SL16B bloggers day which could take place early next week (17th-19th). Again no confirmation of this yet. It’s been pretty quiet lately on the news front.
Upcoming SL16B Schedule
SL16B Opening Date: 20th June – 8th July
Music Faire: 21st June – 22nd June
Second Life Official Birthday: 23rd June
Live Events: 23rd June – 29th June
I’m sure there will be announcements in the days ahead on Second Life 16th birthday celebrations. Hopefully SL16B will be another great birthday celebration.
