Work is underway over at the SL19B regions in time for Second Life 19th birthday celebrations starting 16th June through until 5th July 2022. As many know already the SL19B theme is Steampunk and it will be interesting to see how many builds will actually stay with this new theme.
Applications are still open for SL19B and this is a great time to be part of the birthday celebrations. Please note that SL19B applications close on 8th May 2022.
During the past month or so the SLB regions have changed visually slightly for those that have been watching/tracking progress on the map. In many regions the square parcels have been marked out already with new build constructions happening in the south which is good news. In the north and on the east side not much has changed as far as I can see. The planning regions in the south east have not changed recently.
The regions are not open until the public until mid June 2022.
SL19B Regions Map – 27th April 2022
Stay tuned for more SL19B updates on my blog during May 2022 and June 2022.
On 31st March 2022 Linden Lab announced that SL19B applications for volunteers and exhibitors are open for those that want to take part in this year’s birthday celebrations. The theme for SL19B is officially Steampunk and as like in previous years it’s not necessary to build strictly to the theme but it is encouraged though. I’m sure it will be a great birthday celebration once again this year with loads to see and do.
Second Life officially turns 19 years old on 23rd June 2022. The SL19B community birthday celebrations take place between 16th June to 5th July 2022. Everyone is invited to come along and enjoy the party.
SL19B applications are now open for volunteers, exhibitors, performers and for the music fest. See application links below in the blog post to apply.

Save the date! On June 23rd, Second Life will be turning 19! The 19th annual Second Life birthday celebration (SL19B) will be held from June 16th to July 5th. Get ready for three fun-filled weeks of live music, performances, shopping, and amazing community exhibits!
The theme for SL19B is Steampunk, but don’t let that make you feel limited! Just like last year, your exhibit does not need to stay in theme. Share your Second Life passions with us. Your interests. Your communities. Your world! Every year we celebrate because of you, the amazing and creative Residents who have chosen to call Second Life home. What has drawn you into this world, and what keeps you here? These annual festivities are an opportunity to show us what fuels your Second Life. Let’s celebrate that together!
We’re also looking for volunteers to assist during the celebrations. We are seeking Residents with great people skills and a passion to share the best of Second Life to help us make SL19B a huge success!
If you have the Second Life spirit and stamina to promote SL19B events and serve as a guide for huge crowds, we’d love for you to fill out the volunteer application by May 8th, 2022!
Work has already started over at the SLB regions to get the regions ready for the big event and it will be interesting to see the visual changes over the next few weeks/months. I will blog every so often when new developments happen. Stay tuned for that on my blog.
On Thursday 17th June 2021 SL18B opened it’s gates to the public in Second Life and saw hundred’s visitors pack into the SLB regions. The opening ceremony had a high attendance like it always does for the annual Second Life birthday opening days. There was lag again throughout opening day as the regions were full mostly.
If you missed the SL18B opening ceremony then here is the full video which runs for 37 minutes. After roughly 19 minutes Strawberry Linden started exploring some of the SL18B celebrations which was apart of Lab Gab.
Patch Linden gave his opening address at SL18B Live Stage. Skip to 7 minutes & 30 seconds where it begins. It’s a really good speech where Patch briefly talked about the new user experience, the next LH theme was announced which is Fantasy and his time working with Brett Linden. The Fantasy demo region is open until 6th July 2021.
Patch Linden talked about Ebbe Altberg and how he changed Second Life for the better. He will never be forgotten. There was a minute of silence to remember.
Meet the Lindens & Meet the Moles series start from Tuesday 22nd June through until Friday 25th June 2021. “Patch Linden (June 22 at 1pm PT), Grumpity Linden (June 23 at 2pm PT), and Brett Linden (June 24 at 1pm PT). You also get the chance to meet the Moles (June 25 at 1pm PT)”.
There are over 35 regions to explore filled with live music, performances, over 200 exhibits, gifts and shopping. To see what’s happening everyday at SL18B it’s definitely worth viewing the full SL18B birthday calendar.
The SL18B category on the Second Life Destination Guide is very useful to check out for SL18B shopping, experiences and events.
I will post more SL18B in the days ahead. Stay tuned for that.
During the past week the SL18B regions (SLB) have changed on the world map in Second Life in terms of the start of the transformation taking place and the expansion of the whole area. The snapshot above was taken on Sunday 23rd June 2021 showing new changes. Earlier in May the SL18B regions came online and you can see what it looked like below.
New Visual Changes
There are now 10 SLB Water regions at different points surrounding the birthday regions
Region terraforming can be seen clearly on most of the regions
The Stilts demo region (SLB Enchant) from SL17B has been revamped
Training for SL18B will start this week for volunteers and exhibitors will be able to start building very soon.
All exhibitors will be contacted no later than 1st June 2021. Those that are successful will be contacted in-world by IM and Notecard by the Mole team. The lab has received over 250 applications for SL18B so far so it may time some time to process.
More SL18B information will be likely be announced by Linden Lab in the weeks ahead.
24 days and counting until the grand opening of SL18B. Wooot!! 🙂
Second Life 18th birthday celebrations officially start next month from 17th June through until 1st July 2021. The good news is that the SL18B regions have now come online however they are all still named SL17B at this time.
It’s going to be great to see the visual changes of the birthday regions over the next six weeks or so depending on how often the World Map tiles update in Second Life. These regions are closed for public access currently.
On Thursday 6th May Linden Lab announced that the SL18B Shop & Hop applications are now open. This event brings together the top merchants across the grid for exclusive discounts and exclusive items. SL18B Shop & Hop will take place from 17th June to 1st July.
Linden Lab will be sharing more information about SL18B over the next month. I’m sure there will be announcements early next month along with many group notices in the specific birthday groups inworld.
Not much longer to wait now until the birthday celebrations open.
On Monday 29th March Linden Lab officially opened up the SL18B volunteer applications which will remain open until Thursday 29th May 2021. For anyone that has not volunteered before at previous Second Life birthday events then I highly recommend doing it. Applications for SL18B Performers, Merchants and more will be opening very soon.
The upcoming Second Life 18th annual birthday celebration (SL18B) will be held on 17th June to 1st July 2021. Roughly 80 days away now.
It’s worth pointing out that SL18B volunteers will have to attend pre-birthday training sessions (at least one) and must be completed. SL18B volunteers are expected to commit to at least two hour shifts during the SL18B birthday celebrations. Volunteers don’t get paid during this event.

We’re looking for volunteers to help people celebrate at the upcoming 18th annual Second Life birthday celebration (SL18B), held June 17th to July 1st, 2021. We are seeking Residents with great people skills and a love and excitement for Second Life to help us make SL18B a huge success! If you like the idea of promoting Second Life in a positive way to thousands of people in a celebratory atmosphere, we welcome you to apply today! The application will remain open through May 28th.
On Friday 5th March 2021 Linden Lab announced some good news about the upcoming SL18B Music Fest which will be held Thursday 17th June until Saturday 19th June. The SL18B Music Fest will kick off the SL18B celebrations with three exciting days of live music performances. This year marks it’s 7th year annual event.
I can’t believe Second Life will turn 18 in three months time. I guess Second Life has reached almost adulthood. So much has changed over the years since the public opening of Second Life back in June 2003 (beta times). Second Life is still alive and will hopefully be around for many more decades to come.
Linden Lab have opened the signup process for auditions for SL18B Music Fest. Applications will remain open until 28th March 2021. If you are a music performer in Second Life then this is a great opportunity to participate. The lab will review all submissions and follow up on audition invitations via a note card inworld.
More details will be revealed soon for SL18B including how to participate as an Volunteer, Exhibitor, Merchant, Performer and more.
This weekend is the last opportunity to visit the SL17B regions in Second Life before they all go offline very soon. The Linden homes preview region is still open at SL17B showing the new Stilt homes. The actual release of these new homes will available hopefully in the next few months or so.
Please spread the word one last time and explore the SL17B regions if you have time this weekend. To all those that made SL17B possible and run smoothly thanks so much.
Today Patch Linden posted a further update on the new Linden Home themes upcoming on the Second Life Forums. Read more here.
Firstly he points out there are 4 floor plans to the new Stilt home theme. There will be two placement options on the home selection page soon. Patch says don’t abandon your homes.
Here is the schedule for the upcoming new Linden Home themes 6, 7, 8 and 9.
Theme 6 officially announced on 23rd June – Stilt homes
The Stilt homes are basically done and ready for deployment
The lab don’t have have the region capacity to release them right now. The lab are aiming at after the AWS project completes when region capacity becomes available to us sometime later this year
Theme 7 is nearly content complete
Not set up for deployment yet .
Getting ready to enter production
Getting ready to enter production
Here is the full update posted by Patch Linden…
As has been mentioned, do not abandon your homes. A quick clarification on styles and such. There are 4 floor plans to the Stilt Home theme. There will be two placement options offered on the home selection page of the site. One of the selections will find the house placed where there are stairs are anchored to land, so those houses will be either the over land or maybe partially over the water for home placement. The other option offered will be for a home fully over water (no entry stairs). This is how you’ll be able to choose witch type of placement you could select.
In general, the Stilt Homes while they are basically done and ready for deployment, we unfortunately do not have the region capacity to release them right now. We are aiming at after the AWS project completes when region capacity becomes available to us sometime later this year. In the mean time, we’re already working on the next 3 themes after it. Theme 7 is nearly content complete, but not set-up for deployment yet. Then the following themes (8 and 9) are getting ready to enter content production.
Loads of new Linden Home themes to look forward to now. Hopefully by the end of the year themes 6, 7 and possibly 8 may be released.
At 9am SLT today the SL17B regions opened up to the in-world Second Life Birthday group. There was a fair amount of Moles and Lindens at the SL17B Welcome Area welcoming everyone through the gates. The best way to explore the birthday regions is through the SL17B map boards and the SL17B Pods system.
+ The LH Demo Area is not available yet – more details will be announced soon
The lag so far seems to be low but it will probably increase over the weekend then balance out in the weeks ahead.
First preview of SL17B
The SL17B grand opening for the public starts at 11am SLT on Friday 19th June 2020. The theme for SL17B celebrations is “Road Trips and Vacations”. There are loads of SL17B events coming up now. There is loads to see and do this year. The SL17B regions look
