On Monday 14th February 2022 will mark the opening of the annual One Billion Rising event in Second Life. The event will feature a four region stage where over 200 people can come together to dance over the 24 hour period. There will be DJs and live performances through the duration and everyone is welcome to participate. There will be art installations, arenas for poetry, live music and much more.
1 in 3 women across the planet will either be raped or beaten in their lifetime. This event raises awareness of the issues. Every February in Second Life the community rises, dances and shows incredible strength. The focus for 2022 is the concept of the international One Billion Rising organisation Artistic UpRisings.
Change the narrative from the current to the future. Subvert our current paradigms and expectations of the body and the earth with art. Create revolutionary art that fires and awakens the senses. Root it in radical love, radical pleasure and radical compassion. Move love, connection, eros and joy. Demand a new language for this life. Rise for the sacredness of all women’s bodies. Create for the holy ground of Mother Earth. Reclaim freedom.
The OBR team are looking for volunteers to help out with this year’s event and here is the OBR 2022 Volunteer Application. Full training will be given and good luck.

Here are my newest snapshots below of the 7th annual One Billion Rising event and the Isle of View regions in Second Life for 2019. I enjoyed attending both this week and I recommend everyone to check it out.
The 7th annual Second Life One Billion Rising event starts at 12am SLT on Thursday 14th February 2019. The event will be held on four OBR regions on the map and it’s expected there will be a large gathering this year. The event lasts for 24 hours featuring many DJs, performances, poetry and much more.
The main stage is central of the regions surrounded by an area of art installations and informal exhibits. It’s definitely worth checking it all out.
ONE BILLION RISING began as a call to action based on the staggering statistic that 1 in 3 women on the planet will be beaten or raped during her lifetime. With the world population at 7 billion, this adds up to more than ONE BILLION WOMEN AND GIRLS.
Every February, we rise – in hundreds of countries across the world – to show our local communities and the world what one billion looks like and shine a light on the rampant impunity and injustice that survivors most often face. We rise through dance to express joy and community and celebrate the fact that we have not been defeated by this violence. We rise to show we are determined to create a new kind of consciousness – one where violence will be resisted until it is unthinkable.
And we here in Second Life can be part of this global movement.

To mark this occasion there will be a four region stage where around 200 avatars can dance together. There will be live performance acts during the 24 hour period, art exhibits, poetry events and storytelling events.
This event is to raise awareness to end the violence against women and girls around the world. It’s almost time to Rise, Release, Dance and demand Justice. Just to point out this event is not a raise money event.
Change can happen if…WE ACT NOW. AND WE ACT TOGETHER.

About One Billion Rising
ONE BILLION RISING began as a call to action based on the staggering statistic that 1 in 3 women on the planet will be beaten or raped during her lifetime. With the world population at 7 billion, this adds up to more than ONE BILLION WOMEN AND GIRLS.
ONE BILLION RISING FOR JUSTICE is a call to women, men, and youth around the world to gather safely on 14 February 2014 outside places where they are entitled to justice – court houses, police stations, government offices, school administration buildings, work places, sites of environmental injustice, military courts, embassies, places of worship, homes, or simply public gathering places where women deserve to feel safe but too often do not.
In 2013, one billion women and men shook the earth through dance to end violence against women and girls. On 14 February 2014 we called on women and men everywhere to harness their power and imagination to rise for justice.
And in 2015, we are calling for a revolution for change.
Imagine, one billion women releasing their stories, dancing, drumming, and speaking out for changes to see an end to violence against women and girls.
And we here in Second Life can be part of this global movement.
One Billion Rising for Justice in Second Life 2015

The Second Life event will feature a four-region stage where 200 people can come together to dance, surrounded by an area of art installations, an arena for poetry and dramatic productions, and informational exhibits. The regions will have a General maturity rating to allow all residents an opportunity to participate. Pictures are welcome on the event’s Flickr group.
The objective of the event is to raise awareness, not to raise funds; however, information about real-world organisations will be available for those wishing to donate.
