Home & Garden Expo Regions 2022

The upcoming Second Life Home and Garden Expo starts this weekend on Saturday 26th February through until Sunday 20th March 2022. The Home and Garden Expo is one of the most popular running events in Second Life. The goal is supporting Relay For Life through it’s fundraising efforts from sponsorships, contests, donation items, entertainment, exhibitor fees and much more. There will be loads of volunteers helping at this event so give them a friendly hello.

The entertainment schedule will be published very soon including discussions, talks and entertainment. The 2022 stores are listed here with the region names next to them. The expo regions (Hope 1-9) are located next to the American Cancer Society region in the east.

The expo offers something for anyone who is looking for new ideas for their new home from furnishing and décor to seeing the latest home trends in Second Life. This is a great opportunity for those that want to improve on their building skills etc.

This week Patch Linden has said that there will be no scheduled showings and are not part of the event this year relating to new Linden Home themes. See update here.

The Newbrooke theme, and the following theme will be released when we are ready to release them.  They have nothing to do with Home & Garden, we are not part of the event this year, and the Moles and I do not have any scheduled showings at the event.

Second Life Home & Garden Expo 2022 Applications Now Open

Registration is now open for the upcoming 2022 Home & Garden Expo event in Second Life. The annual event will take place on 26th February through until 20th March 2022. The Home and Garden Expo is one of the largest and longest running events in Second Life supporting Relay For Life. There will be nine full regions showcasing many styles and genres from furniture, landscapes, houses, decor items and much more.

Blogger applications have opened officially for all those that want to cover the event. There will be blogger access on 24th February 2022 for a early sneak preview of the regions.

The Home & Garden event team are now processing applications and will be sending out notices to all those that are succesful.

Important Dates

• Exhibitor’s access to set up displays: 20th to 25th February
• Press Preview: 24th February 2022

Patch Linden Talks About Linden Homes At RFL Home & Garden Expo 2021

Patch Linden talks with Saffia

On Wednesday 10th March Patch Linden VP of Product Operations talked with Saffia Widdershins at this year’s RFL Home & Garden Expo 2021 about Linden Homes and much more. The special talk session duration lasts for 1 hour / 22 minutes / 40 seconds and you can watch the full video above for the latest updates.

Patch Linden talked about his work at the lab including testing on the user experience flows (news later this year), Linden Homes (three new themes being worked on), the old Linden Homes and much more. It’s a really interesting interview with some sneak hints on whats coming next from Patch. There was mention about the process and issues on Second Life moving into the cloud.

For those that don’t know the Bellisseria continent is almost connected with the south west part of the Satori continent which is a huge development for Second Life. I can’t wait for the day when its officially connected so everyone can travel between the two continents. See my previous blog post for the latest map developments. This latest batch of new regions will increase the overall main grid region (Linden owned) count later this week.

Linden Homes Newer Updates…

• The next Linden Home theme after Chalets will be previewed at SL18B and most likely be released once the birthday is over. This new theme will blow your socks off and will have unique capabilities according to Patch
• Chalet homes probably be released in a couple of weeks time (on map the lab have almost connected the continents)
• Patch’s goal is to have all of the Linden Home themes released by the end of the year (if everything goes smoothly)
• Passport system will be launching soon for Bellisseria (passport stamping kiosks with custom stamps like get your passport and discover (driver license etc)

Moving To The Cloud

• Philip Rosedale last worked on the maps system / fix still being worked on since the uplift last year
• Fixes are going to take time for the various Second Life issues
• Web search has been a challenge / constant battle with the technology
• Group chats deploy fix coming soon / most teleporting issues have been solved
• The lab has a health dashboard to see the latest stats for teleportation (if above 95% = success rate), region crossings and more
• Report issues via the Second Life Jira

Coronavirus

• 2020 Relay For Life & Fantasy Faire raised alot last year according to Saffia
• Premium Plus was not the right time to launch last year
• Having a platform like Second Life the lab cannot be ignored
• The lab uses Zoom internally etc for video chat meetings

Around the hour mark the session went from normal chat discussion to Q&As.

• Demo region for Chalets is down
• Second Life could integrate Philip Rosedale latest project with spatial audio
• Make Second Life a web based application – the lab are looking at something according to Patch
• No word on when the Second Life Mobile app is coming
• VR maybe further down the road for Second Life
• Extra styles for traditional homes on the roadmap
• Premium Plus (larger parcels and homes) / land impacts / land impact bonus possible – no idea on when yet
• Tier land cost increases – not on the roadmap
• Check/organize Inventory on the Second Life website – it’s possible and a sizeable project to do

Second Life Home & Garden Expo 2021

The Second Life Home & Garden Expo 2021 is just around the corner it’s been confirmed. The 2021 event will take place from 27th February through until the 21st of March 2021. The 13th Home and Garden Expo (HGE) is in support of Relay for Life of Second Life and the American Cancer Society.

There will be a great opportunity to look at the latest house furnishing trends, attend auctions, hunts and enjoy the great entertainment throughout the event duration. It’s not yet known if there will be any new previews or announcements during the expo event of the next Linden home theme after the Chalet Linden Home theme.

The event offers something for anyone who is looking for a new home, decor or wishing to improve their building skills. This year there will be a new “special addition of Waffleville a Tinies, Dinkies and Chibit mall space” which sounds very exciting indeed.

Everyone is busy getting the place ready and spruced up for your visit to the Second Life Home & Garden Expo! Flowers are being planted, shrubs being trimmed, homes are painted, furniture is being moved in and acts are getting ready to wow you.

So save the dates to visit February 27th to March 21st. Catch an amazing act at the main stage, attend a talk by our exhibitors at the auditorium or check out the RFL booths to learn more about this year’s teams. Walk the sims to visit SL’s top designers, not forgetting to pop into the malls anchoring our corners and this year’s special addition of Waffleville a Tinies, Dinkies and Chibit mall space.

Home and Garden Expo 2020

The 2020 Home and Garden Expo in Second Life returns on  15th February to 3rd March 2020.

Exhibitors will have access to the region’s to set up their displays from 11th to 13th February. The regions will be open for preview for bloggers on 14th February.

The Home & Garden Expo is an event that seeks to support Relay For Life of Second Life, as well as its exhibitors and guests. Expo exhibitors are required to have two Relay For Life of Second Life 100% donation items at the Expo. These items must be new and exclusive to the Expo for the duration of the event. RFL of SL also benefits via the Gachas, where proceeds are evenly split between the Creator and RFL of SL.

In 2020, for the first time ever, we are also going to include a very small amount of Second Life fashion.

The H&G Expo showcases some of the grid’s best decor, homes, gardens, landscapes, furnishing designs and much more. There are over 100 exhibitors participating this year across ten regions.

The Home and Garden Expo raises money for Relay For Life of Second Life (RFL of SL). There are events and activities happening every day from hunts, auctions, classes and much more.
