The 2021 SL Christmas Expo regions have arrived on the grid this week with just ten days to go until the grand opening. The region naming is very good this year and it’s going to be great to see they open next week. The regions are closed to the public at the moment while preparations continue.
There will be many special events happening during the course of the event and live entertainment. There will be raffles, contests, auctions, breedables and much more during the Christmas season. There may be news about the next Linden Home theme like announced in previous years. It’s not been confirmed yet if that will be the case for this year.
I think the SSPLOH region (located far far away) will be most likely be joined up with the main expo regions at some point next week.
The SL Christmas Expo is a mega event that raises funds for the American Cancer Society and the expo will be supporting the Childhood Cancer initiatives of The Society. All the proceeds of the Expo will be directed to support research, support programs and efforts to help children with cancer.
There is more information about the 2021 SL Christmas Expo on the SL Christmas Expo website. I will post more updates soon on my blog.

Since 2009 the Rockcliffe University Consortium has managed the Virtual Worlds Best Practices in Education Conference (VWBPE) with the support of well over 70 volunteers from the US, Canada, and Europe. Hundred’s of residents have attended over the years for the annual VWBPE and some of the former CEOs of Linden Lab.

It’s worth mentioning that there will be many unique opportunities including promotion of your products and services. Be a event supporter, volunteer at the event, host a presentation, provide trails or samples showcasing your products.
Your participation will help to: * build community through extension of learning best practices to practical application of those ideas and techniques; * provide networking opportunities for educators and the communities that help support education; and * provide access to current innovations, trends, ideas, case studies, and other best practices for educators and the communities that help support education.
Play > Explore > Engage > Immerse > Learn
To make this conference a success, we rely on the support of sponsors who, like you, understand that education is faced with inordinate pressure to make the best use of new immersive technologies in a way that is sustainable and accessible even within limited budgets, available to both instructors and students.
You will have unique opportunities to contribute to the conference including promotion of your products and services, participation in micro-burst Q&A sessions, and ongoing brand identification through our proceedings and video archives.
Please spread the word about VWBPE 2022 happening in Second Life next year.

The Firestorm Project reached it’s 11th anniversary on 3rd September 2021 which is another big milestone. The Firestorm viewer is one of the most popular and most used third party viewers out there today. I personally use the Firestorm viewer for all things Second Life and sometimes I log into OpenSim grids. I think the Firestorm team have done a great job on maintaining and improving the Firestorm viewer with new updates through the years.
The Firestorm team have announced that there will be a big party happening at 11am on Sunday 26th September 2021. There will be epic gifts (some limited collectors items) from content creators from across the grid. More details will be announced soon on the Firestorm Viewer website.
The BURN2 Virtual BURN week in Second Life starts today at 6pm SLT on Sunday 29th August through until midnight on Sunday 5th September 2021. The event will be held at the Burning Man – Deep Hole region and everyone is welcome to attend. There will be many workshops, stories being told, fire dancing, live DJs, live performers and more.
The Temple and The Man will be burning once again towards the end of next week (4th – 5th September). The Man creation is based on the original Man by Zoren Manray and the Temple Caelum of Stars is a original design by Daark Gothly.
The virtual Burning Man event has been running every year in Second Life since 2003. The event is one of the oldest running events on the grid. In 2010 Linden Lab downsized and the ownership of Burning Man was transferred/renamed to BURN2 where the community carried on the annual events.
I have blogged about my experiences over the years attending BURN2 and sharing snapshots with the community. I have volunteered at the welcome gates during various years which I really enjoyed doing. The burns of the man and the temple are probably the best highlight for me. The annual events are really good fun on the playa as it brings everyone together to make new memories.
Join the BurningMan 2.0 group in Second Life to stay updated on the latest news and upcoming BURN2 events. Please spread the word about BURN2 Virtual BURN week starting today.
