2022 Sci-Fi Expo In Second Life

The 2022 Sci-Fi Expo in Second Life opens to the public on Wednesday 18th May through until Sunday 29th May 2022. This year the Sci-Fi expo marks it’s 14th year and theme is Brave New Future. Please note the Sci-Fi website is under construction and the web pages will be updated once the main event gets underway.

There are many exciting events to attend from DJ events, fashion shows, movies, dunk a Linden event, Trivia and much more. Check out the Events page and note that all times are SLT. The SLURL for the location will be announced/published nearer to the time.

This annual conference is the largest gatherings of science fiction fans, merchants, entertainers, roleplayers, creators and more. The conference features sub genres from steampunk, post-apocalypse, cyberpunk, fantasy, superhero’s and more. The Sci-Fi expo is a good way to support the American Cancer Society and Relay For Life of Second Life season.

The Sci-Fi Expo is made possible every year in Second Life thanks to all the amazing exhibitors, builders, volunteers and the visitors who make it a huge success. Everyone is welcome to attend the Sci-Fi Expo and don’t forget to spread the word about this great annual event.

Visit The Fantasy Faire 2022

The Fantasy Faire 2022 in Second Life opened it’s doors to the public on 21st April and has been very popular so far. The event ends on Sunday 8th May 2022 so there is still time to visit the 2022 Fantasy Faire. The Fantasy Faire is one of the major events in the Relay For Life of Second Life season.

The Fairelands have returned from the Mists; twenty fantasy worlds forming a circle of lands, a chain of people across the many realms. Welcome home, Fairelanders!

The best place to get started is at the Fairelands Junction. This year there are 20 regions in total to explore full of awesomeness and nice scenery. Don’t forget “The Faire has long been considered the premier annual shopping event for fantasy-themed merchandise in Second Life, showcasing fantasy avatars, clothing, furnishings, gadgets, and exclusive items by 250 of the grid’s top fantasy creators”.

Fantasy Faire 2022 Blogger Applications Now Open

Great news to share today is that the Fantasy Faire 2022 blogger applications are now open and you can apply here. The Fantasy Faire is a huge charity event in Second Life benefiting the American Cancer Society. It offers live performances, immersive quests, auctions, Literary Festival events, roleplay, games, shopping and much more. There is a Discord group or the inworld group while we wait for the event to start.

Fantasy Faire 2022: Building a World Without Cancer

Since 2009, Fantasy Faire has been the largest gathering of fantasy designers, enthusiasts, role-players, and performers in the virtual world of Second Life®. It is also one of the most successful Relay For Life (RFL) fundraising teams worldwide. The 2021 Faire ranked 19th out of 5,000 RFL teams around the globe. Over its fourteen years, the Faire has raised close to $530,000 US Dollars, or over L$133,250,000 Linden Dollars.

For the past five years, the Faire has dedicated its fundraising efforts to the American Cancer Society’s (ACS) global service and support programs, including the recently launched project BEACON (Building Expertise, Advocacy, and Capacity for Oncology Navigation).

A partnership with nine health institutions and organizations in Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and Latin America, BEACON builds on the success of similar ACS programs in the US and elsewhere. The project answers the call from healthcare professionals and cancer patients in those areas for life-saving information that can dramatically increase survival rates. “Fantasy Faire is one of the cornerstones of our vital work,” says Kristie McComb, Managing Director of Global Capacity Development and Patient Support at the ACS. “It’s an inspiring example of a global community working together to address a global challenge.”

The Faire has long been considered the premier annual shopping event for fantasy-themed merchandise in Second Life, showcasing fantasy avatars, clothing, furnishings, gadgets, and exclusive items by 250 of the grid’s top fantasy creators. In addition, Faire visitors enjoy dance and theater performances; attend auctions, art galleries, and a Literary and Film Festival; and share in an interactive quest and roleplaying events and classes.

Fantasy Faire Radio provides the soundtrack for visitors exploring the Fairelands, featuring music from blockbuster fantasy films along with a rich variety of world music traditions. A second radio station, “Live at the Fairechylde” features DJs spinning an upbeat, eclectic mix of tracks including classic rock, club music, jazz, blues, and pop hits. In 2021, more than 30,000 unique listeners tuned in from over 150 countries around the world.

It all comes to life again this year when the Fairelands return on April 21^st. “I’m always deeply moved that a realm made of ones and zeros has become home to a global community capable of affecting positive change for all humankind” says Elizabeth Tinsley, Executive Director of Fantasy Faire. “It doesn’t stop at the border between the virtual and the physical. In fact, that’s where the real magic truly starts.”

The 2022 Relay For Life of Second Life season will be starting very soon and here are some upcoming important dates to save. The theme for 2022 is Heroes Of Hope and all events will be following this theme throughout the year. The usual annual RFL events will be happening like the Fantasy Faire, Home & Garden Expo, Sci-Fi Expo, SL Christmas Expo and many more.

10 Days Of Relay Communities Raise Over 50k

Second Life ACS posted a blog post on 8th June about three communities (MC, Bellisseria & GOR) in Second Life that have joined together for 10 Days of Relay and raised $50, 610. 10 days of Relay has been very successful and next year it’s going to even bigger.

Last year, the MC community led the way in coming together as a community to support the American Cancer Society.

In 2020, three communities joined together for the 10 Days of Relay and raised $50,610.

The MC’s, who pioneered the community concept, raised $25,927. The Bellisseria community worked together to raise $16,740 in their first year. And the GOR community joined together and raised $7,960 at their GOR Festival.

These significant accomplishments by three extraordinary communities were inadvertently not mentioned at our Relay 2020 Closing Ceremony.

The 10 Days of Relay was an incredible event with so many people participating in so many different ways. It has been instrumental in reaching new places and has enabled us to help people we would never have met without them.

As we look forward to our next Relay season, we see even more communities joining us in our fight for a world without cancer.

A sincere thank you for all that you accomplished and a big Relay For Life hug.

Relay Weekend Regions 2020

The 2020 Relay event weekend officially opens tomorrow from 10am SLT on Saturday 6th June 2020 through until Sunday 7th June over at the RFL regions in Second Life. So far RFL of SL 2020 have already passed the $250,000 USD goal and it’s set to break new records during this weekend.
