Good Press Coverage For High Fidelity Investing In Second Life

Over the past week there has been a noticeable amount of good press coverage around the internet about High Fidelity investing in Second Life and the good news on Philip Rosedale (founder of Second Life) is returning to Second Life as a strategic adviser. This is what Second Life strongly needs now going forward is more positive news coverage to grow Second Life out to reach a global audience.

There has been news coverage on Yahoo Finance, VentureBeat, The Verge, TechCrunch, Daily Advent, Axios, ZDNet and more. There will be a Lab Gab special which will be announced either later this week or next week. Stay tuned for that to hear what Philip and Brad has to say about all of this.

There has been good coverage on many Second Life bloggers sites from New World Notes, Inara Pey, SL Newser, Ryan Schultz, Orca Flotta, Mainland London and many more. There was been good discussions on Twitter, Plurk, Facebook etc.

As many know already Philip Rosedale will work with Linden Lab executive chairman Brad Oberwager. The majority of High Fidelity people, some of the money and patents are moving over to Second Life. There has been interesting discussion happening on the Second Life Forums about this investment. The feedback so far is mostly positive from what I am seeing.

In the Linden Lab press release there were some impressive statistics for Second Life now into it’s 19th year of operation. Hopefully Second Life will continue to grow further in 2022 and beyond that.

Now in its 19th year of operation, Second Life has had one of its strongest years ever with a growing user base and booming economy including an annual GDP of $650 million USD with 345 million transactions of virtual goods, real estate, and services. Over 2 billion user-generated assets exist inside Second Life with 8 million unique items sold on its Marketplace.

More news on this will be posted very soon. Lab Gab is the next big thing to watch out for now.

Philip Rosedale Returns as Advisor, Along with Key Metaverse Assets to Help Fuel Growth

SAN FRANCISCO, Jan. 13, 2022 — High Fidelity announced today that it acquired an interest in Linden Research, Inc. (“Linden Lab”), the pioneering developer of the virtual world Second Life. The deal includes a cash investment and distributed computing patents. Members of High Fidelity’s metaverse team are joining the company, and Philip Rosedale, who is a founder of both companies, is also rejoining Second Life as a strategic advisor.

The transaction will help Second Life further scale its operations and strengthen its commitment to growing an innovative, inclusive, and diverse metaverse where its inhabitants’ ingenuity drives real-world value for themselves and others.

“No one has come close to building a virtual world like Second Life,” says Second Life founder and High Fidelity co-founder, Philip Rosedale. “Big Tech giving away VR headsets and building a metaverse on their ad-driven, behavior-modification platforms isn’t going to create a magical, single digital utopia for everyone. Second Life has managed to create both a positive, enriching experience for its residents — with room for millions more to join — and built a thriving subscription-based business at the same time. Virtual worlds don’t need to be dystopias.”

“Since Philip started Second Life in 1999, its visionary approach has not only stood the test of time, but positioned it for the future,” says Brad Oberwager, chairman of Linden Lab. “He and the High Fidelity team have unmatched experience and I can’t wait to capitalize on the vast opportunity in front of us.”

The Moles have started work this week on adding new Fantasy Linden Homes in the newly added 12 SSPE regions added in the north east corner. Already there are new bridges, pathways, house parcel markers and Fantasy related stuff dotted about. Developments will continue for many more weeks yet but as you can see good progress is being made.

Here is the fantasy sub continent map as of Tuesday 11th January 2022. The new 12 SSPE regions are now clearly visible on the world map now in the north east corner. In many coastal regions work is still happening around the continent.

Twelve new SSPE regions Added To Fantasy Sub Continent

Within the past 12 hours or so twelve new SSPE regions (SSPE2772 to SSPE2783) have been added to the Fantasy sub continent in the north east corner. This is exciting news because with these new regions actually completes the Fantasy sub continent coastal ring.

These new regions are completely flat, unterraformed and they may not be visible on the world map for some time. The moles will probably start adding new fantasy homes and road networks etc in the days/weeks ahead.

I would expect new Linden home themes to be placed in a north east direction where there is a lot of blue void on the grid. Maybe clusters or separate regions connecting them up with former Linden home themes. There is still at least another two Linden home themes yet to be officially be announced/released.

I will blog on further new developments very soon. Stay tuned for that.

First 2022 Second Life Grid Regions Update

On 2nd January 2022 the Second Life Grid Survey region data updated with the latest grid region statistics for Private Estates and Linden Owned regions. It shows how many General, Moderate, Adult, Offline regions there are including the total area (KM).

2021 overall was a good strong year for Second Life growth in terms of regions on the grid which now equals to 1784.61 KM. Private Estates showed net growth through 2021 which is good news and Linden Owned regions grew further once again. I believe region losses for 2021 were much lower compared with previous years.

Interest for regions were on up during 2021 and hopefully these positive trends will continue in the right direction during 2022. I will blog again in April, August and December to see what’s going on with the latest grid statistics.
