Second Life Grid Size as of 5th December 2021

On Sunday 5th December the statistics were updated on the Second Life Grid Survey showing the current main grid size of Second Life. The small table at the top of the main page normally gets updated at the end of each week. This is a great resource to keep track on the latest Second Life metrics.

The good news is that 2021 overall has been a very good year for region growth in Second Life and the net losses has not been that bad for at least a few years or so now. Yay! 🙂

Most of the net growth has come from the Private Estates (over 1, 000 regions added in 2021) and the growth of the Bellisseria continent (over 300 regions added in 2021). The total area of Second Life is now 1786.64 km. I hope this upward trend continues throughout 2022 and into 2023.

I would expect the expansion of the Bellisseria continent will continue for at least another few years at least as more Linden home themes are planned to be released. Maybe another 200 to 500 Linden home regions before 2023. I would hope there will be further increases in Private Estates throughout 2022 along with improvements made to Second Life.

Over 80 regions were offline at the time of this latest update on the SL Grid Survey page. We will have to wait and see if the numbers change much in the last three weeks of 2021.

One thing is for sure interest for Second Life is continuing to show positive signs of growth once again. I will post another update at the end of December 2021 to report on any recent changes that may occur.
