JulyFest 2019 will be happening at the new beautiful new Bellisseria Fairgrounds on Saturday 6th July 2019 from 12pm to 6pm SLT. This will be the first big community event that will include live music, DJ’s and booths for the community. This is a great opportunity to hang out with the Bellisseria community and join Bellisseria interest groups.
This will be a fun-filled day of community celebrations brought to you by the Bellisseria Citizens group. A full calendar of events can be found here.
The Bellisseria Fairgrounds can be reached by aircraft, boat or a direct teleport in. It’s a lovely area with Linden homes all around. Don’t forget to take a snapshot of the massive Magellan statue.

SL4Live – TV on YouTube has successfully managed to record all of the Meet the Linden live sessions from this week at the SL16B celebrations. If you missed any of the live sessions this week then you can catch up with them all below in day order.
Monday 24th June – Patch Linden
Tuesday 25th June – Oz Linden and April Linden
Wednesday 26th – Ebbe Linden
Thursday 27th – Xiola Linden and Strawberry Linden
Friday 28th June – The Moles will be speaking live tomorrow from 2pm SLT at the SL16B Auditorium.
On 25th June at the SL16B Meet the Lindens event Oz Linden talked about Last Names in Second Life. The latest news is that the lab are still working on it by knocking it down one system at a time. Oz Linden did not mention any estimated time frames on it. Oz said “we are getting there” and “making progress”. It will be done in the future.
The lab are still moving forward with the idea but it is disappointing to hear it may take much longer to roll out now. April Linden said this is a very hard problem to solve. I do believe it may be apart of the new super premium package coming out later this year.
Why is it taking so long ?
It’s because all of the Second Life services were built to assume last names would never change. All of these have to be found on the system and altered in the right way = one by one for changing last names to work correctly.
Brief summary…
When Last Names finally rolls out there will be the ability to pick from a list of names which will change from time to time
The lab will not be reusing previous last names like before
The lab are still working out if there should be costs involved (possible cost L$25-L$50 per change) and if there should be any limits for changing it often
Apparently new residents will continue to get the default “Resident” as their last name
If a friend changes their name the lab may include notifications for this

At 28 minutes & 20 seconds the discussion starts on Last Names.
Other interesting updates from the session..
Bakes on Mesh & EEP
The lab are still working on Bakes on Mesh and it should make life more simpler
Firestorm bringing out EEP version very soon
New environment effects and new settings
There has been work on the backwards compatibility side
Web Based Viewer
A web based viewer for Second Life is possible
The move to the cloud is making progress
The new Cloud servers are way more faster
The 360 viewer is coming back
No plans for large region sizes in the cloud
Mobile Viewer Development
Early alpha version coming soon
Basic functions will include logging in and chatting in first version
Don’t expect it to be a full viewer for some time
There was a final question at the end on how many Lindens there are at Linden Lab?. Oz, April and Patch did not answer this question. I would imagine at least 300 – could be less or more than this number.
Ebbe Altberg who is the CEO of Linden Lab will be live at SL16B Auditorium today from 2pm SLT. I’m sure we will hear more about whats coming soon for Second Life and all the latest developments. There will be mentions of Sansar and much more.
Arrive early and there will be live stream of this event via YouTube.
For anyone that missed Patch Linden live event at SL16B yesterday (24th June) here is the full recorded video of it. The full video lasts for one hour and 17 minutes.
This footage was done directly from inworld so you will see the local chat on the bottom left hand side.
Patch Linden on stage after the live show at SL16B
Patch Linden has just posted up a new update today relating to the release process on the Linden Homes section on the Second Life Forums. Starting today the new Linden Homes will be released one region at a time. The releases will start on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. There won’t be any releases during weekends or during holidays apparently. The new Campers & Trailers will be released in one large batch and will be 512 sqm lots. No time has been given when these will become available to the public.
Trains are coming to the new continent in the near future which will be linked with the SLRR. The first community events space called Bellissseria Fairgrounds will be used for events happening around the 4th of July. The new area has already got an airstrip, a big statue and soon there will be a new water taxi service set up. New small commercial opportunities may be coming to Bellisseria continent sometime later this year.
See the full thread post below…
Hello!
I have an update to our release process I want to share with everyone. As I alluded to here, we are going to try and change our release strategy for a little while to see if a particular process works better for everyone involved, including many of you who have been very patiently waiting for one of the new Linden Homes.
Many of you have already been witness to the new process unfolding in front of you whether you knew it or not. Those regions that have been called out in various places such as New Hamsterdam down to SSPE136 (soon to be officially named). We did this for multiple reasons, mostly in an effort to show all of you some of the process we go through in real-time to make these beautiful new regions come to life, and give a glimpse into the timeline involved.
Starting today, we’re going to try to release a region’s worth of new Linden Homes on a regular cadence. We’re aiming to try for a region per every other day, but as we can not control all the factors involved in the lengthy process, we may have some gaps which could last anywhere between a day to several days and especially on the weekends. This will also mean that I will not update this post with each region release, but keep it for larger release updates, announcements, news, information, etc.
This will be followed by the future initial release of the new Campers & Trailers theme that has also now been revealed here at SL16B. This release will be large-scale like other releases we have done in the past, and then also potentially follow the release process I’ve outlined above.
Next up, is an area that is going to be our first community events space called the Bellisseria Fairgrounds! Our vision for this space is to grant communal access to an area that is clear and ready for set-up of an event. We are going to supply the outlying basic infrastructure which includes water taxi access to the main continent, an airstrip and landing pad. We will have a scheduling calendar and process in place where the space can be reserved in advance. The first events already in line for use of this space will be around the 4th of July holiday coming up. More information to come about how the reservation process will work in the near future.
Today (23rd June) marks Second Life official 16th birthday. Second Life is still one of the best virtual worlds out there today.
The party is still going on at the SL16B regions. Next week marks the start of Meet the Lindens Q&As sessions. It’s a great way of hearing directly from Linden Lab on things they are working on. I would imagine we will be hearing more about the new Linden Homes in the days ahead.
New homes and houseboats
Don’t forget to visit the Tapestry of Time attraction at SL16B which is very interesting indeed looking back at the past 16 years of Second Life. For all those that love Second Life history this is definitely worth seeing.
Happy 16th Birthday Second Life. Thanks to Linden Lab for organising SL16B and for all the hard work it’s taken over the years to get Second Life to where it is today.
Here is the first preview of the new Trailer theme at SL16B Spellbound which looks pretty impressive. As member of the press and greeter I took these snapshots hours before the grand opening to show everyone now it’s past 10am SLT. This new area is still work in progress apparently and the final live regions will be different when it launches sometime this year.
Camping Demo Sign:: Please keep in mind this region is just a PEEK at content that is still a work in progress. The final live regions will be somewhat different and will have some variety built into them just like the previous themes do, but it does give a taste of what is coming.
There are new small Trailers and Campers that surround the water lake with mountains around the outside. There is a dirt road with lovely trees across the region with rocks/wood in certain areas. There is a water tower in the north east corner of the Trailer park. Check out the new Community Center Cabin at the main entrance of the new trailer park.
The Lindens and Moles have done a fantastic job overall for SL16B.

There are new Linden homes and houseboats next to the trailer park in the south east corner of the birthday regions.
SL16B officially opened it’s doors to the public at 10am SLT today over at the SL16B regions in Second Life. This year the birthday celebrations were organised by Linden Lab and the Moles who have all done a lovely job at it this year. The community celebration will now continue until Monday 8th July. Check out the brand new SL16B welcome page for the full schedule of events that will be happening during the next few weeks. For reminders check out the SL16B calendar of events that can be found here via the Google Calendar.
There are free gifts, a useful map and information at the SL16B Welcome Area far east on the map. There are friendly greeters who will be there during the course of the birthday celebrations helping everyone get started. This year the community is celebrating SL’s “Sweet Sixteen” with a 1950s retro theme.
SL16B love heart water area
There are many exciting events to look forward to this time including the Music Faire, Swaginator Gift Hunt, Shopping Events and a chance for everyone to Meet the Lindens live. At some point there will be announcements made on the new previews of the new Linden Homes / Themes / Styles which is going to be pretty interesting to see. There are two Linden Home Preview regions south east of the map.
Check out the cool exhibits in the west of the birthday celebration regions, the main stage, the auditorium, the dj stage, the love heart water area, free gifts area and the tapestry of time region. There is live music happening now from talented performers/djs and there will be many other birthday events happening across the grid I’m sure.

Today a new official SL16B first look video has been uploaded on the official Second Life YouTube channel. The video runs for 1 minute and 13 seconds showing sneak previews of the various areas of the SL16B birthday regions. It looks very nice this year. There are surprises that are still yet to be announced.
Don’t forget SL16B officially opens to the public tomorrow morning at 10am SLT. I’ll be blogging more in the days ahead.
Linden Lab have added a new SL16B section on the Second Life Destination Guide. There are now planned birthday events, experiences and places of interest to visit next week. SL16B opens on Thursday 20th June.
Linden Lab will be hosting a series of special Town Hall Q&As events during the first week of the birthday celebrations.
All the sessions will be held every day at 2pm SLT/PDT.
