A Benefit for the American Cancer Society

Celebrating its eleventh year, Fantasy Faire 2019 is the largest gathering of fantasy designers, enthusiasts, role-players and performers in the virtual world. From Thursday, April 18 to Sunday May 5, treat yourself to shopping, dance and theater performances, DJ parties, auctions, questing, our Literary Festival, fantasy art, events and role-playing as thousands of Second Life residents and creators bring their own visions together to support the American Cancer Society’s vision of a world without cancer.

Fantasy Faire has always officially lasted eleven days, and in recent years we’ve been fortunate to have a few extra days added. This year we’re making it official: our formal programming will still conclude with our One Team dance party marathon on Monday, April 29th, but now we invite you to join us for an additional week of shopping, questing, and exploring as the Fairelands will be open through Sunday, May 5th. That’s a total of eighteen days of the Faire – and you never know when something unexpected might happen in that final week!

As always, you’ll find fantasy avatars, clothing, furnishings, gadgets and exclusive items available from almost 200 of Second Life’s top Fantasy Creators across ten stunning regions designed by some of the visionary artists behind many of the hottest spots on the Second Life destination guide.

In addition to the ten shopping regions there will also be six Faireland realms that take us beyond commerce, from a Memorial Garden to the Fairelands Quest, the Literary Festival, Performance Stages, from Art Galleries to the Worldling Collection. These bring the Fairelands count for 2019 to sixteen regions, just waiting for you to explore them.

Fantasy Faire 2019 will be open to the public April 18 – May 5. The SLurl to the event will, as always, be found on the website on our opening day. We welcome you to come and join the story.

Fantasy Faire 2019 is made possible by the generous support of our Region and Event Sponsors, all of whom you can learn more about on the Faire’s website. For more information please contact one of the Faire coordinators:

OSSM TAKES TIME ? & New Orange/Green Development on SSP Continent

SSP Continent – February 2019 Update

SSP Continent – 19th February 2019

A few interesting visual changes this month on the new SSP continent which is worth mentioning I think. Firstly on the SSP124 region there is a new message saying OSSM TAKES TIME with a smiley face next to it. This is definitely a code for something more official in the works I think or it could be something relating to a hyperlink to OpenSim which would be most interesting. What do you think this could mean ?

This month there appears to be more houses built, more new trees and more docking points around the continent (see the map above). I hope the new SSP continent will be connected by many water regions to another large continent because that would be great.

A new orange and green development has appeared in the central area of the continent with a double lane road on the right side (SSP186, SSP187, SSP202 & SSP203) which looks like a new retail space. There is another double lane on the left which may be worked on soon.

A cute smiley face has appeared on the SSP2 QA Test region.

The moles have definitely been busy during the past few months building more and more. The bottom half of the content remains empty it seems on the map and who knows what that will become in the months ahead. Good progress is being made and I’ll post another update next month.

One Billion Rising 2019 Starts Tomorrow In Second Life

Preview of OBR 2019

The 7th annual Second Life One Billion Rising event starts at 12am SLT on Thursday 14th February 2019. The event will be held on four OBR regions on the map and it’s expected there will be a large gathering this year. The event lasts for 24 hours featuring many DJs, performances, poetry and much more.

The main stage is central of the regions surrounded by an area of art installations and informal exhibits. It’s definitely worth checking it all out.

About OBR

ONE BILLION RISING began as a call to action based on the staggering statistic that 1 in 3 women on the planet will be beaten or raped during her lifetime. With the world population at 7 billion, this adds up to more than ONE BILLION WOMEN AND GIRLS.

Every February, we rise – in hundreds of countries across the world – to show our local communities and the world what one billion looks like and shine a light on the rampant impunity and injustice that survivors most often face.  We rise through dance to express joy and community and celebrate the fact that we have not been defeated by this violence. We rise to show we are determined to create a new kind of consciousness – one where violence will be resisted until it is unthinkable.

And we here in Second Life can be part of this global movement.

Linden Lab Launches New Second Life Mini-Series – “Love Made in SL”

Logo by Marianne McCann, courtesy of Linden Lab

On Monday 11th February Linden Lab announced the new Second Life Mini Series called “Love Made in SL”. This new limited run mini series will be “showcasing the many real stories of romance in the virtual lives of the Second Life community”. This is great news I think.

In the next few months the lab plans on unveiling a series of short video profiles that tells the stories of couples finding love in Second Life.

Wolf and Teal

Here is the first episode featuring the first couple named Teal from the United States and Wolf from the United Kingdom. They both met 10 years ago at the Tiny community of Raglan Shire in Second Life. Wooooot!!!!

After a few years of a long distance relationship Teal decided to move from the US to the UK to be with Wolf. They are getting married this week.

This is lovely news and I hope they have a great wedding this week. I wish them all the very best for the future in SL and in real life.

Future episodes of “Love Made in SL” will be uploaded soon via the Second Life YouTube channel.

Google+ Shuts Down On 2nd April 2019

My Google+ Profile Page

Google+ will be now shutting down on Tuesday 2nd April 2019 and all consumer data will be deleted. This includes all photos, pages, comments and videos.

Google announced back in December an early shutdown due to a bug that exposed millions of people’s private information to app developers.

Important Note: As early as 4th February 2019 anyone wanting to create new content will no longer be able to create new Google+ profiles, pages, communities or events. If you’re a Google+ Community owner or moderator you can still download your data for your Google+ community.

In the coming weeks the sign-in buttons for Google+ will stop working although you’ll be able to sign in with your Google account.

It will be a real shame to see Google+ shut down in two months time as it was a useful way to find out what’s happening in Second Life, OpenSim, Sansar and for many other interesting things.
