Why Second Life Didn’t Work Out On Steam

Back in September 2013 Peter Gray told Hamlet Au (New World Notes) that Second Life hit some complications and so it was put on hold. Apparently since then Linden Lab have learned and done more research among talking to companies about this.

From September 2013…

Without going into details,” he e-mails, “our plans to make Second Life available on Steam hit some complications and so were put on hold. Since acquiring Desura, we now have our own distribution platform, and we recently made Second Life available there (blog post about that here), as well as on Amazon (in the US, UK, and Germany).

Second Life future on Steam unlikely

The idea might not be completely out of the window because the Second Life steam app info was updated 3 months ago at 02:29:07 UTC on 20th September 2018. See the history page.

It looks like the lab have removed some store tags 3 months ago (shown in red). They added these store tags back in mid June 2017 (shown in green).

This update could mean nothing at all or it could mean the lab are thinking about it again in the near future. I think it’s unlikely that Second Life will be added on Steam anytime soon.
