Happy 14th Birthday Second Life

Happy 14th Birthday Second Life 🙂

Today Second Life officially turned 14 years old and it’s incredible to think how much Second Life has changed since the launch back in June 2003.

The introduction of Windlight, Mesh, Materials, Project Bento, Experience Keys, Place Pages and 360 Snapshots has made Second Life so much better. Thanks Linden Lab 🙂

Latest updates on Sansar via Reddit

On the Sansar section on Reddit there have been many new submissions posted in the past week or so which is worth checking out. Sansar_Peter otherwise known as Pete Linden who is the Director of Global Communications in Second Life replied to various submissions giving updates on Sansar. The official start of summer is fast approaching and there is still high interest for Sansar.

Here are some updates that I found most interesting on the upcoming Sansar Creator Beta.

Latest Sansar News – June 2017

  • Linden Lab has so far invited a few thousand creators to date and more invites are being sent out now. The plan is to open up Sansar Creator Beta this summer but no specific date has been announced yet. If you are still interested apply at sansar.com.
  • There will be upcoming additional PR and asset releases from the lab on Sansar as the launch of  Sansar approaches this summer.
  • Sansar is not intended to replace Second Life or be a sequel version of it.
  • Adult content will not be allowed during the opening of Sansar Creator Beta. The lab wants Sansar to be an open platform that makes it easier to make all kind of experiences.
  • Sansar will work on the Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and on PCs.
  • When Sansar Creator Beta opens there will be many features and functionality still being worked on.
  • PBR materials will work with Sansar in the distant future
  • The Sansar pricing model is being worked on at the moment. The lab is planning to make it as inexpensive as possible for everyone to create and share their own social VR experiences.
  • Sansar has come a long way since the lab invited the first external creators. Sansar will continue to improve and evolve with each new update.

SL14B Press Day Preview

Yesterday the Second Life press had special access to preview the SL14B sims. The long wait is almost over because the SL14B Community Celebrations officially open to everyone at 12pm SLT today.

At first glance the SL14B regions look really impressive this year. There are 18 SL14B regions to visit and explore. There will be live performances, live DJ events, hunts, pod tours and so much more during the week ahead.

Second Life officially turns 14 years old on 23rd June 2017 and there will be grid wide celebrations.

The annual Second Life birthday is one of my top favourite events to attend. I’m always impressed by the amazing builds, events and great community atmosphere there is.

My first preview snapshots of SL14B.

Linden Lab shares some quick tips on account security

Today Governance Linden shared some updated quick tips on account security on the official Second Life blog. The reminder comes afteran increase in the use of third party tools that gives account credentials and control over a Resident’s account to another Resident”.

“This and similar products can change an account password and/or details, such as email address, which could prevent an owner from accessing an account, or even from being able to recover the account.”

The lab have now issued some updated quick tips on how to keep your account secure. Please read the full blog post below for more information.

We want to remind everyone that giving another Resident access to your account or account information, by any means and for any reason, is both dangerous and not permitted by the Terms of Service. An account is intended to be used solely by its creator, and keeping your account details secret and secure helps you keep it that way.

We’d like to provide you with some quick tips on how to keep your account secure:

Choose a secure password with upper- and lowercase letters, numbers, spaces, and symbols, and avoid common dictionary words or phrases. For instance, “password” is not a good password, but “wh4tAr g@t4P55!” is much better (though you shouldn’t use that last one either, now that all of Second Life just read it, too).

Choose a secret security question answer. To keep your information extra secure, choose an answer that you will remember, but that no one else could possibly guess. For example, answering “What is your favourite vacation spot?” with “Potsdam, Pennsylvania” isn’t secure if you have that listed as an interest on your social media accounts. Answering “The Wide Wide World of Sports” might be much more secure!

Keep your password and the answer to your security question secret from everyone, regardless of their relationship to you. Only you should know this information; not your significant other, family member, casual acquaintance, person with an honest look in their eye, or anyone else.

Keep your password unique and special to Second Life. Reusing the same password across different platforms or websites makes your account vulnerable if one of those sites suffer a data breach.

No Linden will ever ask for your password. Likewise, there is never a reason for you to enter your password to unlock an item, receive a discount, or anything else.

Use only the official Second Life Viewer, or a Third Party Viewer from the Third Party Viewer Directory. If the viewer does not allow you to log directly into your account for any reason, the viewer is NOT secure.

You can read more about keeping your information secure on the wiki at Linden Lab Official: Password Protection.

If you have any problems accessing your account—especially if you believe that your password or security information may be known to anyone other than you—please contact the support team by opening a support case.

Thanks for keeping your account secure!

-Governance Linden

A visit to The Arcade in Second Life

Today I went to visit The Arcade in Second Life to look around and enjoy the lovely scenery. The Arcade is open through until Friday 30th June 2017. If you have not yet visited The Arcade before then I strongly recommend it.

The Arcade is a busy destination around the clock so I recommend visit during non peak hours for a better experience. There are three Arcade regions to teleport into this year.

Looks amazing from a distance right ? Absolutely! 🙂

At the starting area there is a wall of Second Life names that have represented an international choice of generosity that have shown support over the years. I think this is really cool and it reminds me of the Second Life Beta Contributor Wall.

The Arcade is such a great place for Second Life photographers and shoppers to visit. There is so much to capture here. 🙂

The Arcade was founded in September 2012 featuring over 100 of the grid’s best designers and builders. The Arcade opens in March, June, September and December every year.

In September 2017 The Arcade will be celebrating its 5th anniversary in Second Life. Wow 5 years already! 🙂

There is a nice food & drink concession stand on the left with a fun spinning carousel on the right side outside of the main Arcade area.

Once inside The Arcade there are many interactive gacha machines to collect many high quality prizes with so much more to discover.
