Bay City Ninth Anniversary Coming Soon

Bay City 9th anniversary poster

Bay City will be celebrating it’s ninth anniversary in Second Life on Sunday 21st May 2017 starting with the annual parade at 12.30pm SLT over at the Band Shell located in the Bay City – Harwich region.

The parade will go down Route 66 (highlighted in yellow below) and will finish at Bay City Fairgrounds in the North Channel region where there will a live concert throughout the afternoon on the main stage. This year there will be live performances by DJ Marx Dudek, Christov Kohnke, Winston Ackland and Oblee (Obeloinkment Wrigglesworth).

Last year there was a great attendance (60+ avatars in the region for attendance) with a few Lindens dropping into the Bay City 8th anniversary celebrations. At the end of the celebrations there was a conga dance with a long line of avatars dancing. I absolutely loved it last year from following the parade from the air, the live music and the fun conga dance.

Next year around mid May 2018 will mark the big 10th Bay City anniversary and it’s going to be extra special for sure. I hope there will be a new annual event added to the annual parade and annual live concert that happens every year. 🙂

Mainland community turns nine this May
BAY CITY, SL (9 May, 2017) – As the Second Life® mainland community of Bay City turns nine, its Residents are once again hosting their annual parade through the city, followed by a live music event in their fairgrounds.

The first project of the Linden Department of Public Works, Bay City opened in May of 2008 to initial viewing, with auctions for land in the city beginning soon after. It has developed into the largest community-focused virtual urban area in Second Life.

Participants in the annual parade are asked to gather at noon SLT/PDT on Sunday, the 21st of May, to lineup at the band shell in Bay City – Harwich. The parade will wend its way down Route 66 beginning at 12:30 p.m. SLT/PDT, and will conclude at the Bay City Fairgrounds in the North Channel region.

A live concert will kick off at 1:30 p.m. SLT/PDT at the Fairgrounds with DJ Marx Dudek providing music leading into the event until 1:30 p.m.SLT/PDT , followed by Christov Kohnke from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. SLT/PDT, Winston Ackland from 2:30-3:30 p.m. SLT/PDT, and Oblee (Obeloinkment Wrigglesworth) from 3:30-4:30 p.m. SLT/PDT.

All Residents of the Second Life grid are welcomed to participate. Celebration goods, including parade float bases and ideas, are available at the Bay City Community Center, in the Daley Bay region for those who wish to be a part of the parade. Ample viewing areas are provided. The music event is also open to all who desire to attend — not only Residents of Bay City

Bay City is a mainland community, developed by Linden Lab™ and home to the Bay City Alliance. The Bay City Alliance was founded in 2008 to promote the Bay City regions of Second Life® and provide a venue for Bay City Residents and other interested parties to socialize and network. It is now the largest Bay city group, and home to most Residents of Bay City.

A visit to the historical Wild West Town in Second Life

Welcome to the Wild West Town

Today I re-visited the historical Wild West Town located in the southwest part of the Oak Grove region in Second Life.  The Wild West Town in the early days of Second Life around 2003 was a resident work project where anyone could make contributions and get paid for doing so. The town was used to give newbies some money to start off apparently.

Great town to explore here

The last time I blogged about the Wild West Town was back in 2012 when it was fully restored back on the grid thanks to the LDPW. Today the Wild West Town looks absolutely amazing in 2017 and it’s a great place to visit if you love visiting historical places in Second Life.

Sansar Open Alpha/Beta Pushed Back To Summer 2017

According to New World Notes Linden Lab have apparently pushed back the Sansar release from Open Beta to Open Alpha now scheduled for Summer 2017. The main source comes from this article called Virtual reality is giving Second Life a second lease of life posted the on The Irish Times website last month.

Sansar goes into open alpha in summer 2017, allowing anyone with a VR headset to sign up and try it out

Sansar Opening Plans Update

According the official Sansar Twitter page late last month it looks the Open Alpha / Open Beta phrase will be definitely happening this summer. However the specific date is yet to be confirmed as Sansar is still in the early development stages.

I would imagine the main public launch of Sansar will now happen later this year or possibly in 2018 if things go according to plan.

Investing in VR Headsets

I think the best time to buy VR headsets has to be late 2017 / 2018+ when prices will be a lot cheaper with ten times better quality. The demand for VR headsets is set to rise during 2017 into 2018+. The VR experiences are set to be even more amazing and mind blowing in the years ahead.

Sansar Creator Preview Applications Still Open

The good news is that applications are still open for the Sansar creator preview at sansar.com if you are interested in trying it out. Apparently over 12, 000 content creators have signed up to Sansar since last August and those that have been accepted have been busy creating their own VR experiences in Sansar.

Sansar PC Compatibility Update

It looks like Sansar will be compatible with PCs, Oculus and Vive. The lab plans to eventually add mac support in the distant future (Estimated for 2018 – 2020).
