The arrival of a new Linden Project area in Second Life

New Linden Project area arrives

New Linden Project area arrives on the grid

In late September 2016 Linden Lab added a series of new Linden Project regions (over 40+) far north of the mainland in Second Life. These regions (named HR/HC/HIH) are currently closed to the public but they are mainly rated Adult which is rather interesting.

It’s unclear at the moment what the regions will be used for and whether or not they will open to the public anytime soon. I guess most likely we will have to wait until the lab announces something about these regions in the near future.

From the map view it looks like the arrival of new Linden homes 2.0 is my guess with water surrounding the central areas. It’s a huge land area and a big Linden project for sure.

What do you think about these new regions ?

  1. I would agree with your assessment. Also, excitingly, it looks like they’ve revived the land tiling concept that was used for the Bay City/ Nova Albion environs, where there are six or seven base tiles that vary internally but have road and waterway interfaces occurring at predictable points around the circumference, so they can be mixed, matched and reoriented to give a pleasing variation. We’ll have to wait and see…

    1. Thanks Juliana.

I just hope the region’s will be open for everyone and not just for premium residents.

Some are thinking that it could be more Linden Homes arriving with revamped infrastructures or that there could be some sort of event happening.

I hope the lab will let the community about this soon.

  2. Mainland rivers look real nice and also the roads.. Still no way to move from one of the islands to the next one, unless by water or teleport.
I would like to see the center islands replaced by water sims, the 2 side water regions without any land as well and the water sim corners with bridges that would connect the roads of a region to another.
I must say i would rather prefer to see all these regions connected to any other continent. If they will to remain as now, isolated, i fear few will try them.

    1. I really like this new area. If it were connected to the mainland even by water I would buy a sub unit.

I have been in SL since before islands and if it were connected to the mainland this is the first land innovation I’ve really been excited about!

  3. I think this ares would be used for VR experience somehow to connect developpers already using SL script language and other tools in-world. It looks like there would be some dungeons or other kinds of arcade-simulation, but three dimensional. Better pointing system and visualisation allows to communicate better through SecondLife world. ( I insisitently do not use a term “game” for SL. IT is already a working enviroment. I am looking for opening a vitrtual freelance agency in game. One of the service options would on-demand scripting for $lindens 🙂

  6. Could this area be an area that is planned as a future transition area between Second Life and Sansar? Yes I know this is pure speculation. But think about it.

In my opinion one of the big problems from Sansar’s beginning was how Sansar ignored and was even hostile to the Second Life user base. Now after 2 years and the niche within a niche market for VR hardware that makes even less sense.
