The 1920s Berlin Project 7th Anniversary

On 30th May The 1920s Berlin Project in Second Life will be celebrating their 7th Anniversary with 7 days of fun events until 5th June 2016. There will be festive parties, dance events, a special church service, a car rally and much more. Don’t miss this!

There have been hundred’s of visitors to the sim over the past 7 years and I’m sure there will be more to come in the future. There are many interesting attractions to check out around The 1920s Berlin Project sim including a theatre, nightclub, museum, train station and cinema.

My first visit to The 1920s Berlin Project was back in January 2012 exploring the historical city during my 2012 adventures. I mentioned back then it’s a really nice destination to visit in Second Life and today it still is a great location to visit. I’ve been to previous anniversary events in the historical city and I have enjoyed them very much.

A Look Back At Bay City 8th Anniversary

Bay City Eighth Anniversary_014_012
Route 66 looks great this year

On Sunday 15th May 2016 Bay City celebrated their 8th anniversary in Second Life and this year there was a great attendance (at least 60+ avatars) for the annual celebrations. The 8th parade was great fun this year. The parade started at the band shell stage, then it went along route 66 through the central areas of Bay City until it reached the North Channel region. There were plenty of spectators watching and cheering on this year.

Let’s do the conga dance!

At the end of the parade live music started in the North Channel region throughout the afternoon. Special guests Torley Linden and April Linden attended along with many well-known residents in Second Life including some of my friends. There was a conga dance and it was much longer this year. Overall the 8th anniversary has to be the best one yet in my opinion.

The Linden Endowment for the Arts (LEA) was established to help create a center of arts activity in Second Life. It is a collaborative venture between Linden Lab and the arts community. Guided by a dedicated board of renowned Second Life artists, the LEA is committed to providing access to engaging experiences in the arts for the Second Life community. Through its exhibitions, programs, and events, the LEA fosters awareness of artists’ contributions to our virtual world and encourages others to get involved and be inspired.

The LEA is run and organized by users of Second Life, with resources generously donated by Linden Lab. The LEA strives to:

  • Provide a starting point for artists in Second Life, and for those interested in art to make connections and display their work.
  • Encourage and cultivate art and artists within Second Life.
  • Foster community, creativity, and innovation among artists and all residents interested in art.
  • Provide a way for artists to promote their art.

In previous years I have pretty much enjoyed the annual celebrations and I have enjoyed blogging about Bay City over the past 8 years. It’s hard to believe that the Bay City regions were first opened in Second Life back in May 2008 developed by Linden Lab.

After the opening The Bay City Alliance group was founded to help promote events and share the latest news. Bay City had plots at the annual Second Life birthday celebrations and at the annual BURN2 event. The regular Bay City posts have been most interesting to read announcing the latest breaking news, events, mole watch and much more.

This map below was one of my first snapshots I took of the Bay City Map on 18th January 2009.

Bay City Map 2009

My favourite Bay City events have to be the annual anniversary’s, mole day, Halloween events, tree lighting and the prim drop. It’s great fun for everyone and if you have not yet been to either the Bay City regions or any of the events I strongly recommend doing it. 🙂

Arrival Area Donald Trump 2016 Second Life Headquarters

Today I went to check out Donald Trump’s headquarters in Second Life and it looks pretty good with info and freebies. There is huge support it seems for Donald Trump at the moment to win the President U.S Election 2016.

Nearby there is a jail, theater, petrol station, burgers shop, church and more. If you are a fan of Donald Trump then it’s worth visiting so you can show your support with others. 🙂

Press Release: Seanchai Library “Crazy Eights” Celebration enters its final month on LEA 9

Seanchai Library’s “Crazy Eights” Celebration enters its final month on LEA 9

LEA 9, Second Life – “The Kraken has arrived at Crazy Eights on LEA Region 9, so it must be near the end.” Seanchai Library will be wrapping up its residency among the core regions in the Linden Endowment for the Arts Estate this month.

Crazy Eights opened on LEA 9 January 31st, billed as a celebration the art of stories and spoken word in Second Life. To date, there have been 31 individual events, presenting over 40 hours of live voice presentations, featuring over 30 storytellers, authors, poets and voice performers. Over one thousand individual residents have visited LEA 9 for events, or to wander and explore. Many returned and Crazy Eights is proud to report a 2:1 ratio of unique to return visits.

“I had to actually get paper and pencil to calculate how many different stories have been represented here, either live performances or through the story forest,” said Chief Storyteller Shandon Loring, “it’s amazing all the different genres and forms we have covered in just four months; everything from literary classics to contemporary adventure and romance.”

Perhaps the biggest story of all is the story of Seanchai Library itself. Seanchai Library (Shanna-key, which means “Storyteller” in Irish.) was founded in March of 2008 in Second Life. Thousands of stories, and hundreds of authors later, the program remains dedicated to promoting the power of stories to transform and inspire through weekly live voice presentations: “We bring stories of all kinds to life, in Second Life.” Crazy Eights refers to the Library celebrating its eighth anniversary this year.

“We’ve reached a lot of people and built many new relationships,” shared Seanchai Lead Caledonia Skytower. Many of those relationships have been individuals introduced to the enjoyment that comes with the virtual story experience. Some of those relationships have resulted in new cooperative efforts. When Armon Aeon and Tigre Milena took up residence on LEA 8 to the north of Crazy Eights to create “Jane Austen’s English Countryside,” the new neighbors started visiting back and forth. “It was the virtual equivalent of leaning over the fence,” Skytower said. The result was a series of readings from the works of Jane Austen presented by Seanchai on LEA 8 that will continue even after the Library has packed up their prims on LEA 9. “We’ve had so many great conversations about art and literature. This was an important friendship to begin here, and I am certain it will continue. There have been so many others as well. It really has been a positive experience in so many ways,” concluded Skytower.

The final month of literature events will include the conclusion of the weekly serial presentation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s “The Return of Sherlock Holmes,” and the final Featured Book Series featuring a book from this year’s Newbery Honors – Kimberly Brubaker Bradley’s “The War That Saved My Life.” There will be one final live voice tour of the Story Forest, and one last Storytellers’ Sandbox featuring voices from around the grid, including the Cold Shot Players. Saturday, May 21st beginning at Noon, there will be a “Big Read” of “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” with a revolving cast of readers presenting Lewis Carroll’s entire work, non-stop, in pairs and small groups. “We ‘Begin at the beginning,” Loring re-quoted, “and we ‘go on till we come to the end: then stop.’”

Lab Chat #3 audio now available via The Drax Files Radio Hour

The audio is now available from Lab Chat #3 that was broadcasted on Friday 6th May 2016 in Second Life. You can listen to the show via show#115 on the Drax Files Radio Hour talking about Second Life, Project Sansar and Project Bento.
