On Saturday 6th December 2014 the annual Bay City treelighting concert & fundraiser will take place over at the Bay City Fairground in North Channel in Second Life. The event starts at 1pm SLT through until 4pm SLT including live music performances, a silent auction, a skating party, fun and dancing. You really don’t want to miss this event!

DJ Christov Kohnke and DJ GoSpeed Racer will go live with tunes throughout the afternoon. Yay!

All money proceeds from the silent auction and from the donation points around the venue will go straight to the Child’s Play Charity, All donations are most welcome!

Can’t wait!

The Drax Files: Episode 24: MadameThespian Underhill

Draxtor Despres has released his latest episode (#24) of The Drax Files: World Makers featuring MadamThespian Underhill who directs Avatar Repertory Theater in Second Life. MadameThespian is a Chicago-based actor who performs and directs for her local Shakespeare company which is very fascinating.

This episode is amazing and really inspiring I think. I love the part about motion tracking technology in the future. Once again another fantastic interview and it’s worth visiting the Avatar Repertory Theater today. 🙂

“Second Life levels the playing field when we interact with each other”, says actress MadameThespian Underhill who directs the virtual reality theatre troupe Artist Repertory Theatre in SL.

A.R.T has been performing live theatre in the virtual world since 2008 with a cast that spans all generations and [physical] location.

Professional TV and stage actors mingle with dedicated hobbyists and community theatre buffs to dress up their colorful avatars in homemade sets to produce drama, comedy, musical and improvisational theatre for a global avatar audience.

In addition to the creative possibilities that a digital universe such as Second Life holds, MadameThespian is enthusiastic about its social aspects as well:

“The value for older people” she says, “is wonderful because of the ability to interact with other people from all over the world of other ages. You are being judged by what you say – the pure essence of who you are!”

And so you can often see the likes of Thinkerer Melville, 85, well-known benefactor of the arts in Second Life enjoying inter-generational dialogue with Madame and Mike Denneny, who at 22 years old is already a veteran in the virtual realm, having started as an entrepreneur on the Teen Grid in 2005.

The theatre a place to express a deeper kind of truth about the human condition? Certainly a tradition in physical “reality” but increasingly one that has impacted virtual reality just as much!

BURN2 2014 Santalarity Opens 13th December 2014

Next month there will be a special event happening in Second Life called BURN2 2014 Santalarity and this will be a 24 hour event. Santalarity opens on Saturday 13th December at 10am SLT/PDT. The Lamplighters will kick off the event with drumming then The Box will Burn on the 13th at 12pm SLT/PST and then again at 8pm SLT/PST. Don’t miss this!

Artists and builders are invited to apply to build on plots to the theme, by submitting an application at http://burn2.org/santalarityplots2014 – plots are free for this event. DJs and live performers interested in participating during the event can sign up using the form at http://burn2.org/santalarityperformance2014. If you have any questions about performance scheduling, please contact BURN2 Performance Lead Larree Quixote inworld.

OnLive announced a new SL Go “Refer-A-Friend” program” earlier this month which is most interesting. Apparently anyone can earn $10 for every referral who converts to a paid SL Go subscriber however this offer is for a limited time only.

This offer ends 01/07/15 and after 01/07/15, you’ll earn $5 for each referral. It’s time to invite your friends to experience SL Go.

Registration is still open for this year’s 2014 Second Life Christmas Expo & Winter Breedables Fair and the event takes place on 4th December until 15th December 2014. There will be holiday and non holiday items from many of the best creators and designers in Second Life spread across 8 sims.

This event is the only official committee holiday event in support of Relay For Life of Second Life an official charity of the American Cancer Society!. Registration for Christmas Expo & Winter Breedables Fair 2014 ends on 14th November 2014. Hurry! 🙂

Toys 4 Tots Breedables Expo 2014 Bloggers Release

Toys 4 Tots Breedables Expo 2014 this year will start on Saturday 15th through until Sunday 23rd November held on two sims in Second Life. See SLURL to visit the sims. 

The expo will feature some of Second Life’s top breedable’s with limited edition toys etc. All proceeds from the expo will go straight to Toys for Tots.

2nd annual OpenSimulator Community Conference starts this weekend

The 2014 OpenSimulator Conference opens on Saturday 8th November through to Sunday 9th November on the conference grid, see login info here. The OpenSimulator Community Conference is an annual conference that focuses on the developer and user community creating the OpenSimulator software.

The OpenSimulator Community Conference is an annual conference that focuses on the developer and user community creating the OpenSimulator software. Organized as a joint production by AvaCon and the Overte Foundation, the virtual conference features two days of presentations, workshops, keynote sessions, and social events across diverse sectors of the OpenSimulator user base.

The first OpenSimulator Community Conference for 2013 was a “terrific success apparently with more than 350 attendees from 45 unique grids visiting with over 1000+ commits to the core code. This year there will be hype about Oculus Rift and info about other virtual reality technologies. In recent weeks there have been load tests to ensure that any issues and bugs have been sorted out.
