HOT BAY CITY NIGHTS 2014

Event feature top Second Life™ vintage automakers.

BAY CITY, SL (18th August, 2014) – Now in its third year, “Hot Bay City Nights” celebrates Bay City’s mid-century theme as well as its large network of roads. The event will showcase vehicle makers who create automobiles from the Bay City “theme era,” stretching from 1940 to 1965.

Established vintage automobile designers will be found in the Bay City Fairgrounds, in the North Channel region, from August 23-30 to present the best in vintage and retro vehicles for all Second Life™ avatars.

Additional events will provide plenty for all to do, including the crowning of 2014’s Miss Bay City and a number of charity car wasesh. The event will raise funds for Child’s Play, a charity that provides toys and games for children in hospitals around the world.

Bay City is a mainland community, developed by Linden Lab™ and home to the Bay City Alliance. The Bay City Alliance was founded in 2008 to promote the Bay City regions of Second Life™ and provide a venue for Bay City Residents and other interested parties to socialize and network. It is now the largest Bay city group, and home to most Residents of Bay City.

Firestorm 4.6.7 is released

The Firestorm team have released a new version 4.6.7.42398 with tons of new features, updates and bug fixes on Sunday 17th August 2014. There’s alot going on under the hood in this latest release of Firestorm and it’s recommended that everyone should do a clean install. This is a must upgrade for Mac users because the 64bit version is here!

Firestorm Blocking Update

• Version 4.5.1 beta will be blocked in the coming weeks
• If you are on Version 4.5.1 update now
• Version 4.4.2 will continue for Mac users until all the major Cocoa Mac bugs have been resolved

Here are some of the new features and updates in 4.6.7:

• Faster scene rendering speeds (Project Interesting)
• The arrival of Mac 64-bit version (beta release)
• Displays the latest news from the Second Life Grid Status Report page in chat
• New Google Breakpad updates now integrated into the viewer
• The Help menu now has the Firestorm Classes Schedule added
• A new option has been added to Preferences > Chat > Keyword Alerts
• Distant avatars now animate at the correct speed when avatar imposters are disabled
• Snapshot upload to Flickr has been fixed
• New Radar functions
• Mac Cocoa bug fixed

Dates announced for BURN2 Caravansary 2014

There is two months to go until the opening of BURN2 Caravansary 2014 in Second Life and this week the key dates have been announced by the BURN2 team. BURN2 is a community supported event and if you are interested in participating, fill out this volunteer form. Volunteering at a big event is a great way to meet new people and ensure that everyone has a great experience.

Important Dates to remember for BURN2 Caravansary 2014:

• Applications for Juried & Plottery camps closes: 18th August 2014
• Plot Sales Close; 25th August 2014
• Building Starts: 3rd September 2014
• Building/Placement Ends: 13th October 2014
• BURN2 Opens: 18th October 2014

The Drax Files Radio Hour #32 – OpenSim

This week on show #32 Maria Korolov from Hypergrid Business talks about virtual worlds and OpenSim from a recorded interview back in March 2014. It’s a really interesting interview between Drax and Maria covering different aspects of OpenSim.

If you are thinking about joining OpenSim then this interview is worth listening to from start to finish. The interview runs for 29 minutes and 38 seconds. There is mentions of IBM, Second Life, OpenSim, Linden Lab and virtual worlds in general.

New Login screen on Second Life Release 3.7.14.292660

Linden Lab has revamped the Second Life viewer login screen this week to make it more simple and cleaner for new users apparently. To see the new changes download and install the latest release via the Second Life Release/3.7.14.292660 release notes page.

From a glance the login area has been moved to the top of the screen with three new login buttons to enter Second Life. The login area has been enlarged with a new look and its more welcoming than before in previous releases of the Second Life viewer. The showcase area below is still the same as before and the logging in process is still the same.

The Relay For Life of InWorldz fashion week will run from Saturday 20th September until Saturday 27th September 2014. This is a call out to all fashion designers of InWorldz to participate in fashion week and to spread the word about this incredible fundraising event. The team are looking for designers that are interested in donating at least one item and they are looking for modelling agencies that would like to hold a show during fashion week. The Relay For Life of InWorldz fashion week, InFashion and Beyond – Fashion For Life, is right around the corner and we need YOU! We are also looking for modeling agencies that would like to hold a show during fashion week. The available dates are September 21st -27th Please see Raven Dulce to reserve your spot on the calendar.

We are looking for designers that are interested in donating at least one item during fashion week, with all proceeds going to Relay For Life (you may donate more if desired). Men, women, tinies, children, and any other type of clothing is welcome (NO Nudity). We also encourage shoe, skin, tattoo, hair and jewelry/accessory designers to participate. If you are interested in signing up please contact Raven Dulce by **August 20th ** to reserve your shop at the event.

Designers are you ready to get creative?? We are also looking for designers that are up for a challenge and would like to donate a one of a kind outfit for an auction. If you are up for the challenge please contact Raven Dulce to get your name on the list!

And last but not least, if you are a live performer or DJ and would like to Host a party or event during fashion week please contact SkyeSunset Willow. *All tips must be paid to the Relay For Life kiosk. The teams of Relay For Life of InWorldz will also be hosting fundraising event at the Fashion For Life.

~ Fashion week will run from September 20th – 27th. There will be runway shows, Live music, Auctions and DJ’s.

This year InWorldz will be hosting its third annual Relay For Life season and the theme for 2014 is “A Future Without Cancer”. Hopefully this year there will be more visitors attending and I think there will be more interest during the 2014 season. Here are the latest updates from the RFL of IW 2014 planning committee…

Starting at 6pm SLT tonight The Pen will be proudly presenting Espresso Yourself Night in the Bay City Mashpee region in Second Life. This is a great chance to go on stage and share cool stuff with the rest of the grid. This event will be text and voice with everyone welcome to attend. This event is hosted every first Tuesday of the month.

Our main stock in trade: Read a poem. Poetry is always encouraged at the pen. Share one of your own, or one by someone else. Read it on voice or type it out. You can even pre-record some sound files if you want to get really inventive.

The grand display of Second Life’s Home & Garden creators benefiting Relay For Life!

Great news for those that love Home and Garden Expo in Second Life is that registrations are now open for this year’s event. The 7th annual Home and Garden Expo in Second Life will be held from Tuesday 16th September through to Sunday 28th September 2014.  The long delay was due to unforeseeable circumstances and misunderstandings which have now been resolved.

LEA Office Hours held on Friday’s on LEA3

LEA office hours

LEA office hours will be held on a weekly basis on Friday’s at 10:30am SLT which will be held on LEA3 in Second Life. The first ever LEA office hour took place on Friday 25th July hosted by Solo Mornington and that was very successful indeed. LEA office hours are open to anyone interested in art in Second Life and those interested in LEA in general.

You are invited to come and ask questions about the LEA, its grants, procedures, sandbox, plans, or anything else he might be able to answer. If you have some ideas you’d like to share, they are also welcome.
