VWBPE 2014 Kick-Off “Connections” & Press Show coming soon

As many know already VWBPE 2014 will be held on 9th-12th April 2014 in Second Life and on OS Grid this year. There will be many well known keynote and featured speakers for this year’s conference including Philip Rosedale, Ebbe Altberg, Maria Korolov,  Justin Clark, David Gibson and many more.

I think this is very exciting news to hear that VWBPE 2014 is officially happening and I think the keynote/featured speakers sessions will be interesting to attend. The VWBPE 2013 conference took place in late July 2013 with more than 100 attendees attending. This year it’s been moved much earlier and I hope it will be another successful year.

I first became interested in VWBPE in Second Life back in March 2010 and since then the conference gets bigger. See my blog coverage over the years and snapshots since 2010.

I’ve been told there will be press tour happening once the new builds are done both in Second Life and on the OS Grid. It’s not yet known when that will be. For more details see the immediate press release below with links, dates, locations and the main keynote speakers for VWBPE 2014.

Nova Albion 10th Anniversary Celebration

On Sunday 23rd March 2014 the oldest city of Second Life will be celebrating it’s massive Nova Albion 10th Anniversary with a big parade and street party. There will be a chance to meet some of the oldest mainland residents apparently and find out more about the history of the Nova Albion.

The parade starts at 12pm SLT under the archway in Grignano park in Second Life and will run for about 30 minutes with a street party following afterwards from 12:30pm SLT. There will be entertainment and merriment including live DJ music by Holocluck Henly and a live performance by Christov Kohnke.

Linden Lab calls for Beta Testers for Second Life’s Oculus Rift

Linden Lab have blogged today about a limited beta for Oculus Rift integration in Second Life however this is open to those that have Oculus Rift development hardware already. If you have access to the hardware then the lab would love to get your feedback. If you are a developer then this is something for you perhaps.

Linden Lab have confirmed in the blog post that they have a Viewer ready for beta testers which sounds great for sure. The lab have been working with the development kit to integrate the Oculus Rift with the Second Life Viewer.

The bad news is that there isn’t a consumer version of the headset available yet. The wait continues but hopefully soon there will be. This is another step in the right direction for Oculus Rift integration with Second Life.

The blog post announcement today…

The Oculus Rift offers exciting possibilities for Second Life – the stereoscopic virtual reality headset brings a new level of immersion to our 3D world, making Second Life a more compelling experience than ever before.

Though a consumer version of the headset isn’t available yet, we’ve been working with the development kit to integrate the Oculus Rift with the Second Life Viewer. We now have a Viewer ready for beta testers, and if you have an Oculus Rift headset, we’d love to get your feedback.

If you have the Oculus Rift development hardware and would like to help us with feedback on the Viewer integration, please write to sl_oculus_beta@lindenlab.com to apply for the limited beta.

It’s ready for beta testers to apply for the limited beta period. Appy today if you are interested! 🙂
