Jessica Lyon who is the project manager of the popular Firestorm viewer has announced in a new blog post this week that there will be 64-bit support for Windows 64-bit, Linux 64-bit and at some point in the future possibly a Mac 64-bit version of Firestorm. This is very good news and it’s been welcomed by Second Life community/Firestorm users.
Using 64-bit version of Firestorm would firstly work a little bit faster and secondly it would work more effectively than using a 32-bit version. 64-bit will use a greater amount of memory but overall it will still perform well.
Before 2014 there will be regular releases of ALPHA and experimental versions of Firestorm which is worth watching out for and trying out. There will be a Firestorm Public Beta release coming out soon full of fixes and improvements. Jessica mentions Materials, DAE Export with other things are in the works.
What are your views on having 64-bit versions of Firestorm ?

Today I went along to the BURN2 greeters gate road in Deep Hole and started my 2 hour slot of welcoming new visitors to the playa which I enjoy doing every year. It’s good fun volunteering and meeting new people. This is my 5th year greeting at the BURN2 event in Second Life which just gets better every year I think. I enjoy giving out freebies and information to ensure everyone has a great experience at the BURN2 event.

Qarl Fizz (former Qarl Linden) has announced on his blog on 16th October 2013 that he has deleted his region in Second Life. The main reason for leaving was due to the recent changes that Linden Lab made to the terms of service and that he doesn’t want Linden Lab to steal all of his intellectual property.
Qarl writes about the deformer project in the blog post and mentions that Linden Lab have been completely ignoring requests for information and that the lab can’t find time to review hundred of lines of code or answer emails.
Goodbye Qarl and good luck for the future. 🙂

If you are concerned about the recent changes to the Second Life Terms of Service it’s strongly recommended to join the open free group called United Content Creators of SL which was founded on 29th September 2013 by Kylie Sabra . This group is offering a strong approach to recent TOS changes and by working together will hopefully achieve so much.
This group needs backing with alot of support if there is going to be any impact at all.
So far there are 254 members in the group and it’s growing by the week. This is huge news and this recent TOS change effects so many people/places on the grid. Change has to happen at some point in the near future and hopefully Linden Lab will do something. The best thing is to participate today and spread the word.
This group consists of content creators who want to protect their rights and work for the common good of all content creators in Second Life. By working together we can achieve much. Please invite fellow creators..
