Regardless of the cost of going premium, there’s another issue that LL needs to consider: what are the actual benefits of a premium account? Right now, a premium account doesn’t seem to be particularly attractive.

With concurrency and sim counts continuing to drop, Linden Lab is reacting by reinstating the Educational Institution discount and now a discount on Premium memberships. They continue to avoid the real issue, which is the ridiculously high land charges for tier and setup. They ignore that issue because it happens to be their bread and butter. It is the primary source of their revenue, but unless they address that core issue residents will continue to give up their land and they will stop coming inworld.

Why should they stop coming inworld, as long as it is generally free?

Maybe the number of regions will continue to decline. But Second Life is the virtual world where the people are! Have you ever seen the numbers of simultaneously logged-in users in other grids?
