Just heard some very sad news today that Kev Sweetwater has passed away in real life earlier this week. Kev died at 35 years old and the reason for his death is not known yet. Kev Sweetwater joined Second Life on 20th August 2008 and I became very good friends with him during late 2008 when I transferred to the main grid. Kev worked in the following roles in Second Life. See below!
- L.inden Endowment for the Arts – Advisor
- )'( Burn2 Core Leads Team 2010 – 12 )'(
- }'{ Burn2 Dept. Of Public Works Lead 2010-2012 }'(
- Second Life 8th Birthday Core Lead Member
There will be a special farewell event celebrating his Second Life on Saturday 19th May from 6pm-9pm SLT on Burning Man – Deep Hole (145,135,25) region inworld. I will miss him alot and kev will be missed deeply by all. 😦
The core BURN2 team said this in a notecard this week…
It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing in Real Life of the man known in Second Life as Kev Sweetwater earlier this week..
Kev was known by many people within the BURNING MAN Community in Second Life as a member of the BURN2 Department of Mutant Vehicles and as the past leader of the Department of Public Works. Kev was a friend to us all, a dedicated Burner, and someone who was there with a ready joke or insightful statement on what it means to Burn.
Kev’s original application to BURN2 team says it all. In his words, “ To me the biggest part of my second life is my desire to volunteer to help other volunteers learn and grow more and have a enjoyable time…”
Kev was a man who loved the Playa and what the Burning community stands for. Please join us in celebrating his Second Life on Saturday, May 19th, 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. SLT on Burning Man- Deep Hole. At 7:30 p.m. SLT we will have a small burn in honor of Kev.
