SL9B countdown continues to tick down

There are now 18 days left until the grand opening of the resident run supported SL9B community event which takes place in Second Life on 18th June 2012. Already the 20 sims for this event are starting to take good shape and exhibitors will be starting building for SL9B from 4th to 16th June 2012. The SL9B team are currently going through applications. You will be contacted ASAP!

For SL10B there is talk of planning will take place in early 2013 and hopefully with community support there will be more regions etc.

I will be taking snapshots the SL9B regions to share the progress of the sims via the map. Check out today’s snapshot showing the SL9B parcels being created and other related builds for SL9B. In the next few weeks you can expect the regions to full up and starting to look fantastic.

Today logging into Second Life it looks like Linden Lab are now wanting the SL community to submit events for SL9B if you are planning a celebration of any sort. You can submit SL9B events to the Destination Guide Suggestion Page.

This year I am a SL9B Greeter, SL9B Flickr/Twitter/Blog admin and a member of the SL9B press team. I’m really excited about the SL community SL9B event and i’m looking forward to enjoying/covering the birthday celebrations when the sims open to the public next month.

While we wait for the grand opening you can watch the funny SL9B – The Angel Of Death videos uploaded by Crap Mariner. Watch the latest video #9 below showing a sneak preview of the SL9B sims.

Restored Wild West Town in Oak Grove

Thanks to Marianne.Mccann for mentioning that “Wild West Town in Oak Grove is restored/added” today. I decided to re-visit Wild West Town again in Oak Grove in Second Life this afternoon (SLT). I believe that the Moles have been working on restoring Wild West Town for many months (years) on the Mole Islands inworld. I’m glad its back fully restored and thanks to LDPW for rebuilding the cool little wild west town. Yay!

Visit here..

The last snapshot I took of Wild West Town was back on 31st May 2009 when there were missing buildings/parts.

Today’s snapshots of the restored Wild West Town which looks really nice.

Happy Fourth Bay City SL Anniversary!

Bay City turns four years old today in Second Life and the big celebrations start today. Last year roughly 60+ avatars marched in the parade and this year i’m sure there will be many more attending the parade. Bay City opened in early May 2008 and since then the Bay City community has increased. If you have not yet visited then I strongly recommend you exploring these amazing Bay City regions in Second Life this year. Everyone is welcome at the fourth Bay City SL anniversary today.

Bay City today has doubled in size since May 2008 because of last year’s Bay City merger with the former TG regions which was the right decision I think. Happy 4th Birthday Bay City!

Event Schedule

  • Parade lineup starts at 12pm SLT at the bandshell in Bay City in Harwich
  • Parade starts officially down Route 66 from 12:30pm SLT.
  • Parade finishes at North Channel at around 1:30pm SLT.
  • Live concert starts at 1:30pm SLT at North Channel featuring many big performances and The Golden Tigers (acrobatic team) will be making a flyover at the fairground.
History of Bay City
Will you be attending ?

Kev Sweetwater passes away in real life, much loved SL resident and good friend

Just heard some very sad news today that Kev Sweetwater has passed away in real life earlier this week. Kev died at 35 years old and the reason for his death is not known yet.  Kev Sweetwater joined Second Life on 20th August 2008 and I became very good friends with him during late 2008 when I transferred to the main grid. Kev worked in the following roles in Second Life. See below!

kev sweetwater

  • L.inden Endowment for the Arts – Advisor
  • )'( Burn2 Core Leads Team 2010 – 12 )'(
  • }'{ Burn2 Dept. Of Public Works Lead 2010-2012 }'(
  • Second Life 8th Birthday Core Lead Member

There will be a special farewell event celebrating his Second Life on Saturday 19th May from 6pm-9pm SLT on Burning Man – Deep Hole (145,135,25)  region inworld. I will miss him alot and kev will be missed deeply by all. 😦

The core BURN2 team said this in a notecard this week…

It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing in Real Life of the man known in Second Life as Kev Sweetwater earlier this week..

Kev was known by many people within the BURNING MAN Community in Second Life as a member of the BURN2 Department of Mutant Vehicles and as the past leader of the Department of Public Works. Kev was a friend to us all, a dedicated Burner, and someone who was there with a ready joke or insightful statement on what it means to Burn.

Kev’s original application to BURN2 team says it all. In his words, “ To me the biggest part of my second life is my desire to volunteer to help other volunteers learn and grow more and have a enjoyable time…”

Kev was a man who loved the Playa and what the Burning community stands for. Please join us in celebrating his Second Life on Saturday, May 19th, 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. SLT on Burning Man- Deep Hole. At 7:30 p.m. SLT we will have a small burn in honor of Kev.

If you would like to contribute to a photo memorial please send Second Life snapshots to Marianne McCann.

Please respect the confidentiality of the family. Memorials may be made to: standup2cancer.org

In deep sadness,

BURN2 Core Team

RIP Kev! 😦

1001 InWorldz regions milestone

This morning InWorldz reached the 1001 regions milestone on the InWorldz Login Page which is great news. When I signed up to InWorldz on 2nd September 2010 there was 499 regions. It’s been growing ever since and today it passed the big one of 1000 regions.

Screenshot of the new look InWorldz Login Screen at 7:55am SLT. 😀

  • 1005 – 18th May 2012
  • 1016 – 19th May 2012

 Wow! 🙂

Here is the graph showing InWorldz regions growth since July 2010 via Hypergrid Business, as of 15th May 2012. It’s interesting to see the growth of InWorldz which seems to be rising at good rates. Avination seems to be on the other side of the scale but will catch on later I’m sure.

1000+ Avatars project end of an era on 3rd June 2012

Gracie Kendal has recently announced that the 1000+ project in Second Life will be closing down on Sunday 3rd June 2012. There will be a fun party from 12pm to 3pm SLT on Sunday 3rd at Coyote and Seraph City. The 1000+ avatars project started a few years ago and had amazing support by the Second Life community. It started with 100 portraits then accelerated to 500, 1000 then 2000+ avatar  portraits. You can still purchase autographed copies of the books and prints apparently. Contact Gracie for more details.

The tiger avatar is me on the 1000+ avatars project wall. YAY!

Visit today before the closure in the next few weeks.

The 1000 Avatar Project, created by artist Gracie Kendal, is a documentation of avatars in Second Life. The portraits explore the idea of the avatar as a constructed online identity and deals with concepts of anonymity, personality, and diversity.

This project is very unqiue, special and amazing I think in Second Life. Gracie Kendal made a notecard about the 1000+ avatars project coming to a end. See below!

Hi my friends,

I want to thank you all so much for your love and support in following and being part of the 1000+ Avatar Project. I am so very proud of the work I have created here and I am glad I have been able to share it with the Second Life community. I think the work speaks for itself in showing the wonderful diversity that we all share here. The lives we create and live and the imagination that you all have shared shows that Second Life is much more than… well the media makes it out to be. I am proud to be a member of the Second Life community and I will continue to pass on its wonders, its capabilities and I will continue to forge ahead as one of the pioneers of this new media art form.

The project has gone through so much since it started in October 2010. I have published 2 books, the installation itself has moved several times and most recently I created a mixed reality installation/performance using a selection from the project in an exhibit in Los Angeles and Second Life.

The whole experience of shooting the portraits, working with my great friend Nikki on publishing the books, putting together the RL/SL art installation and standing back to see what I have done is something I will never forget. I have met so many amazing people along the way. more then 2000 of them :))

Some people have asked me, why I don’t go for 3000 or 10,000 avatars now. At first I kind of laughed it off and said… we’ll see. But as with my paintings, I know when I am finished. It is just a feeling you get. You look at the work you have created and you just know. It is done.

The 1000+ Avatars project has had an amazing journey the last couple years.
On June 3rd from 12-3pm slt we will have one last grand party in which you are all invited… then I will be taking down the installations at Coyote and Seraph City and they will go in my inventory. It is time.

Thank you again so much for your love and support!!

I would like to personally thank Gracie for all her hard work and dedication she has put into the 1000+ project during the last few years. The project will be missed!
