SL Mesh 2012 usage metrics, week 9

Last Monday there was no Mesh meeting because it was Presidents Day USA but this week the mesh meeting was back on as normal with Charlar Linden sharing some more mesh statistics.

Week 9: Again the mesh trend in Second Life continues to go up and that’s good news I think. Yay!

Nalates Urriah has a good summary round-up of the mesh metrics and more this week on his blog…

70% of online time is with a mesh viewer over the past 3 days.

65% of all sessions are launched with a mesh enabled viewer, over the past 3 days.

73% of unique residents logged in with a mesh enabled viewer, over the past three days.

Charlar says while the trend up until now has been positive, the past few days saw a significant increase in the trend.

The amount of content uploaded each day has far exceeded the launch bump seen at mesh release last August, running up around 1,700 items a day and still trending up, as are the number of unique uploaders, trending close to 500 a day.

I think these are pretty impressive stats. If we can ever get the Mesh Deformer completed, I think we will see an even more significant increase in the rate of mesh adoption.

What do you think of the current mesh adoption rate & future forecasts ?

    1. Thanks Jorge for reblogging my blog post.

Yeah and that’s really encouraging for the future of mesh in Second Life. I’m sure in the summer more than 80%+ will be using mesh enabled viewers/uploading content.

  1. At this point mesh is the defacto norm for SL.

Non-mesh items are already started to look ‘dated’ in a ‘system hair’ kind of way when you encounter them if like me, you’ve adopted a good amount of mesh furniture and buildings.

    – The mesh deformer might be dead in the water if it can’t find a way through the new TPV policy. Qarl’s said today on nwn blog that it also only changes what the the mesh looks like in -your- viewer, and that could kill it even if it makes it into the viewers… Unless it at -least- shares that look with others also on a deformer-capable viewer.

The smaller builds get in mesh, the more we will see it adopted outside of fashion – as this will cause people to see its prim-saving advantages. BUT seeing a decent number of no-mod mesh items on Marketplace as well, which is just foolish for buildings, vehicles, and furniture – causing these no-mod items to have way too high of a ‘land impact’ to be viable for rezzing on a normal user’s tier…

  2. Glad to be free to use a non mesh viewer.
Not so glad as it looks like the freedom of any to log and use and see what they want, will soon be gone!
Glad that mesh exists on open sims and there Qarl deformer could be used with a problem.
Not glad cause greed is the main reason behind the use of mesh in Sl and Open sims is all but that!
