Phoenix TPV policy meeting

Yesterday afternoon around 2pm SLT Jessica Lyon (shown on right) and Phaylen Fairchild (shown on left) hosted an important inworld meeting about the new changes to the Third Party Viewer Policy from Linden Lab. Rockcliffe University regions were used to deal with the extra traffic with more than 100-150 avatars in the sims. Within the next 24 hours or so the Phoenix team will publish the video recording from the TPV policy meeting. Stay tuned!

There were problems during the meeting with region crashes, lag issues, griefers and online issues with treet.tv live streaming service. It did resume normally during the last half of the meeting and it was interesting to know the latest updates from the Phoenix team. Bixyl Shuftan has a good review on his blog here from the meeting. I kept crashing along with many others but I did manage to capture many snapshots during this historical occasion.

SL Mesh 2012 usage metrics, week 9

Last Monday there was no Mesh meeting because it was Presidents Day USA but this week the mesh meeting was back on as normal with Charlar Linden sharing some more mesh statistics.

Week 9: Again the mesh trend in Second Life continues to go up and that’s good news I think. Yay!

Nalates Urriah has a good summary round-up of the mesh metrics and more this week on his blog…

70% of online time is with a mesh viewer over the past 3 days.

65% of all sessions are launched with a mesh enabled viewer, over the past 3 days.

73% of unique residents logged in with a mesh enabled viewer, over the past three days.

Charlar says while the trend up until now has been positive, the past few days saw a significant increase in the trend.

The amount of content uploaded each day has far exceeded the launch bump seen at mesh release last August, running up around 1,700 items a day and still trending up, as are the number of unique uploaders, trending close to 500 a day.

I think these are pretty impressive stats. If we can ever get the Mesh Deformer completed, I think we will see an even more significant increase in the rate of mesh adoption.

What do you think of the current mesh adoption rate & future forecasts ?

Edo Tone will be leaving Second Life in April 2012

Breaking News

Today I saw a group notice saying that Edo Tone the owner/founder of Style of Edo will be leaving Second Life sometime during April 2012. It’s always sad news to hear people leaving Second Life and I know that Edo will be missed deeply by the SL community when he leaves in a few months time. Edo creates men’s formal clothing for Style of Edo and you can view he’s great store of products on the Second Life Marketplace or inworld here. I wish Edo Tone all the best for the future in RL. 🙂

This is what the group notice said this morning SLT.

hello members of the press,
After consulting some sources that it is public knowledge that Edo is leaving ,he has alerted friends and his staff with this and it is no longer private ,i decided to share Edo’s goodbye letter in Press Pass and thank this legend for his wonderful work he has done in the community.

Here is a copy of Edo’s goodbye letter which is rather emotional to read.

Hi my staffs,
I worked in SL about 5years.
My SL business is big still. And I got award every year.
I was so lucky.
But I havenot aim and I’m tired about SL business so much.
I do not want to waste time in RL.
And I have not failed in business yet. I would like to become a SL legend.
I will leave from SL in April.(I gave SIM of Ekho to Chris already)
I know my staffs are so good persons and good job.
I will not employ you next month. I’m so sorry.
I know this is big news for SL fashion world.
I did not tell this news to many people.
But you can talk it to anyone.
I was not kind to you possibly.
I’m so sorry. And I am thankful to you from the bottom of my heart.
And you gave me good memories.
I will not forget about you in RL.
You were my SL dream. Because all big owners had
many staffs in SL.
Thank you so much!
edo Tone

New Third Party Viewer policy changes

Update!

Yesterday afternoon Linden Lab posted some new Third Party Viewer policy changes on the SL Forums which will impact users that use ANY third party viewer to run Second Life. 2.j : You must not include any information regarding the computer system, software, or network connection of the user in any messages sent to other viewers, except when explicitly elected by the user of your viewer.

New Flufee on a Meshion, Episode 11: Ladies Men

The awesome series of Flufee on a Meshion continues with Episode 11: Ladies Men. Draxtor’s videos rock and everyone should watch every episode here so far. The Flufee on a Meshion season is very funny and very clever. 😀

Valentines day came and went. And as you may have expected: our cuddly superhero had its share of “experiences”…now is he going to show and tell? In detail perhaps since this is YouTube? No worries, this episode is rated PG just like the entire season 1 – however: a new character enters the scene and he has legs made of metal plus an artificial eye. So should you be offended by steampunk imagery, close the browser tab NOW! We, the writers, sincerely hope that the depiction of Tedee is not too disturbing for our younger viewers! Or the guy with the cheesy cartoon head who is also making a cameo…or the Japanese lady with the….ok, quiet…watch the thing now, will ya?

ISTE Island closure on 1st March 2012

It’s been officially announced that ISTE Island will be closing down on Thursday 1st March 2012, which is sad news for educators in Second Life. It seems the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE Island) is closing because of financial reasons and so the decision has been made to shut down the island sadly. Oh! Virtual Learning! blogs about the closure happenings here which is worth reading.

http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/ISTE%20Island/109/66/30

As of the last day of February, 2012, payments will no longer be made to maintain ISTE Island, and ISTE Island will no longer be.

Its been said ISTE content will be moved to a smaller space on Eduislands 9 island starting on 1st March 2012. There’s also plans to set up a new ISTE region on the Jokaydia Grid. A new home is in the works for the ISTE team to continue their excellent work. 🙂

ISTE has been a special place for many residents in Second Life in recent years and been a popular hit with SL educators on the grid. ISTE hosted a farewell celebration party celebrating ISTE through the years in Second Life shown below.

Farewell ISTE island! 😦

It’s always great to see great talent in Second Life and SL videos uploaded on YouTube.

Spaceport Alpha & Spaceport Bravo sims return

Good news during the past 24 hours is that Spaceport Alpha & Spaceport Bravo sims are back online on the grid after weeks of being offline. Both sims have content like before and nothing has changed in terms of builds. Apparently there is still work to be done as for the conditions of the sims and more details will be released soon by Katherine Prawl. I’m glad to see the regions return this week and i’m sure with SL community support/long term donors the sims will remain for years to come.

Katherine Prawl wrote a comment on NWN yesterday saying that the ISM sims are back online. YAY!

THE ISM IS BACK!!! Thanks to Wagner, and the community response in the blogosphere, and the rational reaction of a higher-up Linden, the museum is back on previous terms. We don’t need to buy new islands, the tier remains the same, and now the work begins. We need to normalize the IP issues with our builders, and we need to arrange reliable funding for the future. That crowdfunding idea Wagner mentioned early on is one option, and even beyond a one-time event, we’ll be talking to long-term donors.

Thanks, everyone, for your support! Watch our blog for announcements of a “Grand RE-Opening” party soon!

Abbotts Air & Space Port is up for sale

The recently opened new Abbotts Air & Space Port is up for sale again, according to inworld sources and via the Second Life Marketplace. The reason for the sale is due to real life pressures which is understandable and I guess something has to give. My last visit to Abbotts was on 13th January 2012 and I thought it was really impressive. I guess another change is on the way perhaps in management and structure of the sim. We will see!

Details

Abbotts — Historic, oceanfront sim for sale

Second Life’s most-famous airport is up for grabs. Due to real-life pressures, I cannot maintain two sims, and must let Abbotts go. Surrounded by protected land on three sides, this beautiful property includes the airport structure, access to miles of open water.

Features

  • Oceanfront property
  • Historic, high-traffic land
  • Protected sims on three sides

If you are interested in buying the sim contact the owner of Abbotts.
