SL user concurrency stays below 70, 000 during 2011

Looking at the Grid Survey SL user concurrency graphs at various times during 2011 it seems like the SL user concurrency has remained mostly below the 70, 000 mark. The median and mean average in 2011 seems to be around 47, 000 to 51, 000. 2011 has not been the strongest year for SL user concurrency but it’s going to be interesting to see if 2012 SL user concurrency gets any better or no.

Lets look at the numbers and graphs from the Grid Survey from 2009 to 2011.

2011 started high around the 73, 000 mark then it dropped monthly until mid August 2011 where the user concurrency started to pick up again steadily. The maximum daily concurrency this month seems to be around 62, 000 to 67, 000.

I think the numbers have dropped this year more than any other year due to bots, camping and other factors.  It’s hard to tell what will happen during December but hopefully more residents will be using SL during the christmas period into the new year 2012.

The minimum daily user concurrency in 2011 shows averaging around the 32, 000 mark compared with higher figures in first part of 2010 due to bots etc.

Linden Helpers update FAQ

During November 2011 Linden Lab have been testing out a new Linden Helpers beta program to assist new residents get started with the basics of Second Life. The lab have created and updated the official Linden Helpers FAQ page this week which is worth reading. My first visit to Greeter Island was on the 11th of November 2011 and since then many new residents have been helped.

Important key questions about Linden Helpers

• Who are Linden Helpers? Linden Helpers are available for live inworld chat to help new Residents between 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. (PST)  Monday through Sunday.
• Are Linden Helpers replacing or ending Resident Help Network (RHN)? Not at all
• Can I volunteer to become a Linden Helper? Not at this time.  The Linden Helper program is currently in beta and is not accepting applications.

I have noticed there are new orientation boards around the center hub where new residents teleport in and there’s new orientation content in the surrounding greeter huts now.

I hope in the future Linden Lab will allow applications from the SL community like the past SL mentor program.

InWorldz key moments during 2011 so far

There have been many wonderful and enjoyable moments during 2011 so far for InWorldz. As you can see below in the list there have been interesting milestones in terms of news and events in 2011. I registered on 2nd September 2010 to InWorldz to try out a new user created world and meet new friends. Today InWorldz passed the 48, 000 total users milestone, region count currently is 858 and there’s between 100-300 active users on a daily basis.

This year I have logged in more, attended the big InWorldz events and blogged about it  too. The stability, performance and growth is amazing. It’s great to be part of it all. I have been impressed so far with InWorldz and I’m excited to see what comes next in 2012. I do think the InWorldz founders are awesome people.

Port Seraphine closing down in Second Life on 1st January 2012

Nephilaine Protagonist has announced that Port Seraphine will be closing down as of 1st January 2012. This is really sad news for the SL community and yet another piece of SL history will be gone. PixelDolls has been popular hit with the SL community over the years and many will be sad to see it go.

Port Seraphine will be shutting down as of Jan 1. This includes the PixelDolls main store, as well as the gallactic, romance, and chroma shops. All items have been set to L50 and will remain so until Jan 1st.
I’ve got a few things planned to commemorate this farewell, including a photo contest and a final LE item- the last PixelDolls will ever produce!- as well as a special something for all of you in the update group. Stay tuned, more info on that coming on Dec 1.

SL Forum posts stabilises from July to October 2011

Back in July 2011 I published that the SL Forums and Answers posts were declining each month. In March 2011 there was a big volume of forum postings which then calmed down on a monthly basis after. The lowest amount of forum posts was recorded during June 2011 for some reason. Between July 2011 and October 2011 the SL Forum posts balanced out above average at times.

SL Answers have been below/above the 200 mark since February 2011. Its going to be interesting to see if the stats remain lower, stable or higher during November and December 2011. My next report will be published in early 2012 to see the state of the SL Forums.

Kim Salzer leaves Linden Lab

It seems like Kim Salzer who was vice president of marketing at Linden Lab has left the lab this month. Just recently Kim’s LinkedIn page updated with Linden Lab being listed as last position. Kim joined in early September 2010 and in the past week there have been reports of Kim’s departure.

Sad news! 😦

Hamlet (NWN) confirmed this and talked with Kim last weekend apparently.

After getting several reports of this departure, I confirmed it from Kim directly last weekend. She tells me that while she enjoyed working for Linden Lab, the regular commute to the company’s San Francisco office from Los Angeles, where she lives, had become too difficult.

I wish Kim Salzer all the very best for the future.
