SL7B Ends Officially Tomorrow, Gates closing 3rd July

Wow what a week of drama and fun it’s been this week for this years Second Life 7th Birthday. SL7B officially ends tomorrow on June 27th 2010 but the gates won’t be closing until 3rd July 2010. This week has been dominated by M Linden stepping down as CEO and Philip Linden coming back to LL as CEO.

My SL7B Summary

Overall it’s been great exploring the SL7B parcels this year and attending many live events. Visiting the SL7B Bear Island was a great adventure to see all the LL bears. The destination guide has a interesting list of SL7B parcels to explore which I liked. I have enjoyed finding out the latest SL7B news updates from the SL7B resident blog by Harper Beresford. Well done to all that have organised SL7B this year and I’m sure future birthdays will be improved one way or another. Loves the yummy SL7B cake!

What are your views on SL7B this year compared with previous Second Life birthdays?

SL7B No M Linden Keynotes, Instead Philip Linden Does Another Speech

M Linden was supposed to give a birthday speech today at 9am SLT to celebrate Second Life 7th Birthday. Instead Philip Linden did another speech today because of a emergency of some sort. A big let down to be honest because I’m sure there was many SL residents that was looking forward to the speech by M Linden today. Perhaps next year both M Linden and Philip Linden could do a speech after one another for SL8B.

[09:18] Philip Linden: We had an emergency and M can’t be here and asked me

The speech that Philip Linden did today was a repeat of yesterday keynote speech at SL7B stage. Managed to get a few new details from Friendfeed streams via SL. Text transcript of Philip’s 2nd speech is being uploaded by Torley Linden here.

  • Philip looks back at his 10+ years adventure with SL
  • Philip repeats the “focus on a few important things” theme
  • he mentions now education and enterprise
  • he repeats the TEAR DOWN THE WALL / “fill the moat” idea
  • now he talks about SL content and economy size
  • the future of LL … re-group focus … small, measurable steps
  • now 5 minutes for questions then he will run away
  • Q. what will be your role – A. “i’m a designer, an innovator”
  • Lag is a single word with 10-15 different (… meanings / sources / causes ?)
  • SL currency is fundamental very stable
The question is what was the emergency all about ?
