SL11B confirmed for 22nd-29th June 2014

New details have emerged for SL11B Community Celebration which will be held on Sunday 22nd June through to Sunday 29th June 2014. This is great news to hear that it’s actually happening on the grid this year. Again it will be interesting whether or not Linden Lab will help to support Second Life eleventh birthday. I will be blogging about SL11B, so stay tuned for that. It’s going to be another fantastic birthday celebration.

There will be seven days full of exhibits, live music, firework displays, games and much more. There will be 11 sims and the sims will be open for a further seven days at the end of the birthday celebrations.

The theme for this year is a famous quote by Winston Churchill: The empires of the future are empires of the mindThis year it’s time to look forward; to imagine where we are headed. This is a very interesting theme choice and I can’t wait to see the builds when finished.

Get thinking. Get imagining. Get creative!

How to apply for SL11B

Applications are now open for PerformersVolunteers and speakers and performers  in the Auditorium. We will need lots of volunteers to make this a success, so please consider whether you can give some time to helping out. We can promise you a lot of fun!

Applications for Exhibitors (i.e. people who want a plot to build on) will open on April 27th. The closing date for Exhibitor, Performer and Auditorium applications is May 26th.

In July teams build campsites and walk a track that spans more than 40 virtual regions.

In 2013, Relay For Life of Second Life reached a milestone of having raised $2,000,000 since its fundraising beginning in 2004, for the American Cancer Society. Relay For Life has become an international movement in RL and in SL. In 2013 participants from over 80 countries took part in Relay For Life of Second Life.

Each new Relay season the RFL of SL volunteers choose a new theme for the following season. The chosen 2014 theme is, A Journey of Promise. Please visit the Relay For Life of Second life website to take a look at our history and accomplishments.

The owl at the VWBPE Central Auditorium

Ebbe Linden the new CEO of Linden Lab will be giving his keynotes speech today at 1pm SLT at the VWBPE Central Auditorium. Ebbe Linden joined Linden Lab in early February 2014 and already there have been many positive changes made to Second Life since then.

Ebbe Linden will be sharing his thoughts on supporting educational uses of Second Life, improving connections, and plans the future of Second Life. Apparently Ebbe Linden will be quite brief in the keynotes speech today but there will be a longer Q&A session so that will be most interesting.

Ebbe Linden did make a special appearance during Philip Rosedale opening keynotes speech on Wednesday 9th April 2014 where over 200 avatars attended. The best advice is to arrive early today and enjoy. :)

Sneak preview of the VWBPE 2014 venues

There is less than 24 hours to go until the grand opening of VWBPE 2014 and the final preparations are happening now. The grand opening of VWBPE 2014 starts at the new look VWBPE Central Auditorium in Second Life with an opening keynote speech by Philip Rosedale at 1pm SLT.

Ebbe Altberg (Ebbe Linden) the CEO of Linden Lab will be giving his keynote speech at 1pm SLT on Friday 11th April 2014 at the VWBPE Central Auditorium in Second Life. The speech will be brief so there is more time for Q&A and discussion apparently. Please note that the regions will be fully packed so best advice is to arrive early or watch it live online.

This year marks the 7th annual Virtual Worlds Best Practices in Education conference in Second Life and on the OSgrid. The excitement is gearing up and it’s almost time to make new connections.

Dirk Talamasca memorial service in Second Life, 4pm SLT on Saturday 5th April 2014

Update: Hundreds of avatars attended the memorial service on 5th April and due to the high demand region crashes occurred. Thanks for the support for Dirk!

As you have no doubt heard, Dirk Talamasca passed away in real life last Sunday 30th March 2014 which is really sad news for the grid and I received word today that there will be a special memorial service held in Second Life to remember him.

The plan is to gather at the Linden Memorial Park this Saturday, April 5 at 4:00 PM SLT to remember the wonderful times, help, and laughter that Dirk so freely gave to all who had the good fortune to meet him in his nine years in Second Life.

Please spread the word in SL and via social media. Everyone is welcome to attend.
