This seems like a great deal for those who want to check out Premium membership – both those new to Second Life and “veteran” residents who have enjoyed Basic membership. Perhaps I misunderstand the terms but if it is possible to just signup for one quarter then either revert back to Basic or jump to annual Premium rates then this is really a great deal. In fact, it seems that your 1st quarter of Premium membership would actually make you a profit! I haven’t done the arithmetic but if there is a signup bonus + 300L weekly stipend then isn’t that more than the $3.75 per month you would be paying ? Plus you can check out the Linden homes, get the really nice free furniture, and try out the Premium Support and Sandboxes. Oh, yeah, play the Project LR game too. What’s not to like ?
Interesting.
I have enjoyed basic membership in Second Life and I don’t have the time nowadays to even think about upgrading. I like the sound of the Premium benefits etc but it can be improved further I think.
I will only advice to join premium, as i did in Feb 2010, on the assumption that live support keeps working as always for me, good!
I’ve got 5 premium accounts…
I guess I could go get a sixth. But I’m trying to cut costs, not grow them…
Its really a psych thing – do you feel more comfortable living on mainland or estate land. The reasons you see people express for either are very personal, emotional, and not based in logic. One bad experience on either side can shift a person to the other for a long time. And likewise, the right good experience can entrench you.
They really ought to do away with the linden homes though – that sells premium accounts, but only by cannibalizing people’s need for tier -and- the rental business. LL’s may not care about the rental business – but it should care about mainland tier usage. With so much abandoned land right now – they should shift linden homes over to ‘claim a 512 lot somewhere, and here’s a list of available ones’. People would then land on their premium 512, and see some land nearby they could buy ‘in addition.’
Someone at LL’s thinks getting people to go premium will increase retention. I am not convinced this is the case. You have to get people past their first week in SL to increase early-retention, and then you have to come back to the 1-2 year old accounts and keep them from leaving. Premium doesn’t hit at either of those stages – but in between for those who go that way.
Wow 5 premium accounts, nice.
I’m on Basic account and has been for the past 5 years. :p
